    Hi guys,
I just bought a 96 Peterbilt 379 Extended Hood. I have 3 quick question for anybody that can help me out. The first one question is about a green switch on the sleeper behind the drivers seat. It says on/off on it, but i cannot figure out what it does. I will attach a picture of it to this post. The second question is about the two pins that are on the ceiling of the sleeper. They are removable pins that have a button on the top of them. I will post a picture of them also. The third question I have is about the gauges. Did they come from the factory with a chrome trim around them? I found some chrome gauge covers that I want to install, but the gauges currently have a chrome ring.. The gauge covers dont seem to fit well over the current trim rings, but the current ones dont appear to be aftermarket. The seem like they were factory installed. Thanks for the help guys!

I believe the green button should be to turn on the overhead sleeper light. The overhead pins are to attach the sleeper bed safety belt.

    SierraMike Thanks this.

The switch should be your sleeper light....The pins?.......No clue....Maybe for hanging your co-driver when he or she becomes annoying.....:biggrin_2559:

As stated the green switch turns on the flourescent lights on the back wall, check your bulbs if nothing is happening....Pins are for the safety harness as stated also..

Post a pic of the gauges when you get a chance I've owned a couple 379's and can tell you if you have stock chrome gauge rings or aftermarket..

    SierraMike Thanks this.

Both the American and Canadian Class tractors come with the stock chrome ring around the gauges. And I have found that not all aftermarket gauge surrounds fit properly. I have only ever used "TRUX" brand and they seem to fit quite well on all my gauges

I still have the sleeper seat belt somewhere. Looks like a big cargo net made out of seat belts. Installs with those pins on top and some buckles on the bottom under the edge of the mattress. I have a "sleeper light" switch on my dash that is wired in series with this green rocker. So you can turn the fluorescent light on from the front and the back. Those fluorescent lights in the Petes always crap out after a lot of use. There is an after market replacement that bolts right in place of the factory one. Its LED. They sell the fluorescent bulbs right at home depot, though. You don't need to go through a dealer. It's just a common household bulb believe it or not. If the bulbs don't work, it's the ballast resister in the fixture.

If it was from Dallas Pete, made in Dennison, it had chrome as standard. Mine was from there, with all the bells and a 500 CAT. Go to the Auto store, buy a strip of fiberglas and the 2 part Epoxy and put it all around the hood , inside where it rubs on the cab as thats where they rub thru and wear and add 2 more straps to hold it down. Just ask a dealer how much that long hood is and you'll see why I recommend it.
