    Time>money.

There are several things that have to be factored in. The first is Location. The better the location, the faster you get loaded, unloaded and reloaded. $2.50 a mile , load at point A, run 1200miles to unload and reload at B and go back to A is a better bet than taking $4.00 a mile 1200 miles to a dead zone. See, there are certain spots you can get loads and there are spots you can't. The dead areas normally pay better, and there's a chance that you may get a load out. There's also the chance of bouncing 1200 miles back to freight too.

Say you left out on Monday, ran that $2.50 a mile load, dropped it Wednesday. Grabbed the next load, took it back to A and drop it Friday. Because of the location, there's a good chance that you can get a load for the weekend. You gross $6000 and have a good start for the following week.
if you do the other for $4/mile, you pick up Monday drop Wednesday in the dead zone. You hit the load boards and everything in the area is going for $.90/mile. Do you take it?
if NO,you bounce 1200 miles and grab a load for the weekend. You gross $4800 for the week, but have a good start n next week.
if you pull that cheap load, odds are you load it Thursday and deliver Monday. You still gross $4800, but you crippled next week.

Someone said that in our job we sell time, and need to maximize our money in that time.

We have rarely either sat, or dead-headed for a load. Hubby sat for two days. He's going to Ogden, UT. We passed up a load in Belle Fourche, SD. It was paying 3.08 a mile. It's an OD load. Another agency underbid the load. It went from FSC $720 to FSC $354. It was an outside trucking company. They cut the load $700 and they can pay the difference! They can put it on one of their trucks and pay for the permits, too! We'll go to Utah and hope for a better load.

Yeah, yeah. We had a decent load out. An agency with trucks, cut us off. They can load it on their own trucks and pay for permits. That agency wanted the fee, not the load. They can have the load, as well. They cut it down $700, they can haul it, and pay for permits. They can also kiss my butt.
