Wait until the San Andreas busts open. Ya think they might consider "relaxing" the CARB rules to get some help in there?

And that latest equipment....Like the EGR...Like the DPF.....Are designed to fail....
I know....I spent over 3 weeks down last year because of the EGR system had to be replaced...Third VGT replaced and the DPF....On a rig that had only 225K on it at the time.......

So staying compliant will make one "more competitive"?

How....When those items are designed to fail?

Why do you think most of the old trucks are going down to Mexico and getting rebuilt and repainted to look new?......Those Mexican carriers weren't born yesterday.....

Come 2014 when no US based (Non-Exempt) carriers will be allowed to run a pre '07 in Cali.....When all of those compliant rigs are down for failing EGR's, DPF's and SCR's......
The NAFTA drivers will be smiling and waving at the fools who became "Compliant"......Thinking that would make them "More Competitive"....:biggrin_25515:

The year of your truck doesn't matter, just because its newer doesn't mean it's better

I highly doubt it is any less competitive than a prostar from '09. I'll bet my house that the 359 will last longer and break down less than the prostar

No, I'm not saying anything about what O/O are being paid because there is absolutely no rules about it - free market and freedom to choose own route in this business cause some to make good money when others are starving. And those who choose to work less using older equipment are the screwed ones because now they have to have big payment every month on new truck they don't need or want. Others, like me are forced to buy big and expensive piece of equipment nobody know nothing about because it wasn't even tested yet. In the same time mega fleets are already driving new trucks because they are unable to keep a truck longer then 3 years with their kinda "drivers"

Now, guess who is winning here? Yes, the big business is smashing the small business again - all those stupid CARB laws are eliminating competition from what used to be the most competitive economy in world and turning it into communist Europe-like wonder where you are either rich or just poor laborer working for peanuts and constantly protesting against some stupid benefits when you could build your own small business and make real money. But you won't - its all said and done already and there is many reasons for this situation we are facing - one of them is scary number of people who have no clue about nothing and keep repeating lies they heard on TV, like this nonsense about US airlines and such. Since when there were single passenger plane owners forced to put filters on their engines? What are you talking about? I don't think you talking safety?

Yes...I have to agree with you...and that Obama fellow is no help to you in the US....He is totally Communist/Socialist in his attitude. It was a bad day for the US when he was voted not once but twice....

Everything on a truck will eventually fail in some time in the future. But I agree with you that EGR shouldn't fail within 200k miles.
But I can not understand how it can take 3 weeks replace those parts. A good shop should have the truck running within 24 hours for simple stuff like egr valves, turbos etc fail.

Allowing Mexicans to run old trucks is really unfair. The most logical would be to require the Mexicans to only run post 2010 trucks to even out the lower wages.

Things are a little better now. But in my past dealings with a kw dealer and a cat house it usually goes like this .

#1 the shop is full of trucks with more or less the same problem it's going to be a couple of days to get you in.

#2 once you get in, sorry no parts in stock. Even if you overnight it you lose another day or 2.

#3. Work gets done , takes almost a full day .

So you've lost 4 or 5 days on some dipstick problem that will happen again!

2 or 3 problems like that , can add up to serious down time real fast.

It is a little better now , after 5 years............. They suck!

I think that is a unacceptable service level. There is no reason the truck should not run within 24h if it's nothing major that broken.

Are the kw dealers open until 10pm in the evening?
