Okay....... I found a few of my pre-trip files...
I made notecards because our DMV is EXTREMELY picky about the pre-trip!!!
.......And everyone in my "class" needed cheat sheets for the first few weeks!!!
A quick count of my cards shows that we recited over 6000 words to that tester ...... and "inspected" about 150 different parts on the truck........
That was certainly not the most enjoyable 30 minutes I have ever spent!!!
So......... if anyone is interested I am going to try to attach these Word documents.......
Pretrip card 1 is the most thorough
Pretrip card 2 was the draft (missing the finished one at the moment)
Brake card is in COLA form with is what our DMV requires
If you print these out you should be able to fold them in half and get 3 notecards of 4x6 size......... printed on all 6 sides....
Good Luck!!!
Have fun!!!
(by the way....... I said EVERYTHING on these cards and still lost 5 points for things that I missed (you could miss 20 and pass) .... if anyone is interested I can add those later)
Pretrip Inspection? Ouch!

One thing not on the CDL test, you'll need it when you actually go OTR: make sure the trailer's registration is in the little fitting when you do a pre-trip. DOT may ask to see it - and if it's not there... hope your wallet has a little bulge to it.

Here's a little excerpt of a post I posted elsewhere many moons ago (okay not that many moons but it does seem like it was a long time ago) maybe this can give you some ideas.
PMS= Properly Mounted and Secured
CDL= Cracked, Damaged or Leaking (for air lines I'd say not cut or damaged and no audible air leaks)
CDAL= Cut, Damaged, no Audible Air Leaks (regarding air lines/hoses)
For all electrical wires: PMS, not bare, cut, frayed or spliced, and in good condition.
For all liquid hoses: PMS not CDL and in good condition.
For air hoses/lines: secure, not CDAL and in good condition (you have to be specific about the AIR leaks vs. just saying leaking, so they know that you know the difference between an air hose and a liquid hose).
For belts: PMS, not frayed, cracked, worn or damaged and no more than 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of play, when pulled by hand.
For engine components: PMS, no missing nuts or bolts. Be specific as to whether it is belt driven or gear/engine driven and for the air compressor add, not CDAL (then talk about the air hoses connected to it).
For example, I would say while touching it, "This is the air compressor. It is gear/engine driven. It's PMS, no missing nuts or bolts. It's not cracked or damaged and there are no audible air leaks and it's in good condition. -
