Windsmith-- you seem knowledgeable.... when I'm at home, I'll get a preplan, but not get dispatched. I'll get to my trailer 30 mins later, let them know, and get sent my dispatch information. Would I need to log drive line?

Hmm.. that's a tough one. By the letter of the law, you are not dispatched so PC would apply. However, you are technically moving the truck at the direction of your employer since you received the preplan and are taking action based on that. You probably wouldn't be dinged during an inspection, but your company may be dinged during an audit.

Yeah, that's what I thought, both replies. I usually just log drive to be on safe side, since most of my loads after home time come out of the port, I have plenty of time and losing30 minutes doesn't hurt. thanks for the reply though.

Think about it for a minute.....
Is picking up a assigned trailer qualified as personal conveyance? One of those common sense things. -
But you can also think about it this way...I deliver in Houston Monday morning. I get to town Friday or Saturday and drop trailer. Bobtail home is personal conveyance. Sunday night I go back to load to leave out Monday morning. That is also personal conveyance, is it not? I'm not moving load, just returning to it.

No, it is not personal conveyance, because you are headed to a rally point. A rally point can be a drop yard, customer, etc. You're performing a work related task, so that does not qualify as personal conveyance.
