The rest of the drive train on these trucks is designed for the 250 HP engine.
Even in stock form they have a habit of blowing up the transfer case in reverse in low range on the 900 series.
The 800 series trucks do not have the room under the hood for a turbo.
For the money you are better off with a M916, through M920 truck as they have a cummins 400 in them.
Which Cat 3406 should I start with for maximum HP

I need the complete truck to take the tranny and mounting hardware out for the complete swap. I plan on selling the rest of the rig for scrap to recoup my swap labor costs. I may have found a 95 3406E 475hp, so I'll keep you guys posted!

What model military truck are you working on?

I don't have the truck yet. I am looking to buy a 900 series if possible. Is there any resolution on those weak transfer cases?

If you use the right combination of parts and drive it respectively then 800hp could be safe for a daily drive. I think one of the biggest issues with big power on a daily drive is added stress on the input shaft of the transmissions. To help with pre-mature bearing failure in the transmission you want to avoid lugging the engine.

I just bought a w900 with a 3406E in it. The SN is 6TS05737. Can you tell me anything about this engine? What kind of hp can I get with you working on the ecm and a turbo? Thank you!!
