Cat 3406b blowing oil out exhaust

    No it wasn't exposed to sea air, The P.O. lived aboard the whole time and the 100 hrs was evenly spread over the 10 yrs.

    I think I've got it. Removed valve covers and wiggled exhaust valves and there was plenty of slop. Fired off the engine and peered in Exhaust holes with my flashlight. I saw oil running down the valve stems! I guess the shop that did the head cut a corner or two.....

    Were the valve stem seals on the valves? That may be the problem, could have been left off or got hard and broke apart from age.

    I had a 12.7 Detroit you could wiggle the valves all over the head, but never smoked or used oil, so the play you feel may not be all that bad.
