Not really ran into this problem before, so here goes...
Loading at Roseburg,Or (Exit 123 on I5) heading to Laredo, Tx. Legal load, hopefully legal weight etc.
Here is the "issue"....Easiest/shortest way takes me into Ca on 5, then I was planning on cutting over into Nv. Problem is, I have a 53', fixed 3 axle stretch RGN, with the rear axle at the back of the trailer! I know the rear axle needs to be a maximum of 40' from the kingpin, which is obviously not going to happen on this trailer.
Any scales there for sure? I am showing one @ Mt Shasta on 5, which is before my cutoff.
If it turns out to be overweight, I think I can get permits for the trailer, but legal weight I can't.
I know I can add a load of miles, and run through Or into the back of Ca, but those roads dont look too friendly on the map!
Thoughts/solutions?
Cheers
Martin
Ca scales?

Have your permit office call the people they deal with at Caltrans.
I belive you can get a permit for the trl. being over king pin inner bridge. I know at the other place. "Mothership" they had gotten them before after one of the company guys got nailed at banning.
Have them explain the trl. Do you have a flip neck?, if so flip it up. to shorten the trl. length. -
Also, can you block the air on the last axle? Chain it up. runn it as a tandem, but I believe you got a 29' well so you will still be too long..
-
Thanks!
Yeah, 29' in the well, and neck is flipped up already. Kingpin to center of rear axle, closed and neck up, is 49'6", so screwed either way. 4'6" center to center on the trailer axles, so will still be 45' if I screw with it. Cant remember which axle has the levelling valve on it neither, thinking front, but not for sure.
Not sure if our (lazy) permit gal will be interested in doing that. They dont pay for fuel, so not their problem in their miniscule minds.

Level valve should be center axle if Trail King..
How pissed would they get if you called OD permit dept at the other place and talk with John there.
He might be able to help you out..
He's in the h.h. side not general freight -
"Other place" as in ATS?
If so they wont even talk to us poor old MW drivers....
Looking at the Or maps, looks like I am screwed for running 140 too....love it.

Edit: Any way around the scale on I5, so I can get over to 89 and 44, then onto 395 into Reno? -
Yep, was talking about them..
Oh, they kinda got you guys on call block then. That's sad. Owned by the same people and they are still "fighting" with each other.. -
Not really a block per say, but they would just send me to our permit dept. Had a few "route issues" with the blade runs, and got told to address it with our own permit dept. Totally sad when those loads are FOR ATS!
Oh well......Better than having the electronic logs and so on I guess.

Yes, that is true for no elogs. not having to take pics of your lds. to make sure you have it chained right.
The elog thing was a fight with me, but they were never in my trk. up untill the day I got let go...
Next time you have issues with wind lds. find out who the sales person is and I can give you their email. Then tell them the problem. Might get the answer you need or really rile them up.. -
You won't like 89 from I-5...it will just delay the inevitable...and some of the turns getting down to Susanville will be ugly. Heavy CHP north and south of Susanville.
You should be OK on 140 to K-Falls and down 395 to Reno, 95 to Vegas then over to Kingman, Phoenix and down....but make sure you go through CA section after 11pm...those black and whites like to sleep.
Check on permits first would be the best!passingthru69 Thanks this.
