If you can land a local job with no experience go for it. Even if the pay is low. Is this dry van, dump, or what?

Bobtail truck. It is through a temp agency, so likely no benefits. But I am almost 25 years old, fit and in good health. So I figure just pay the troll toll and soon enough work the oil fields in West Texas.

You basically do the same thing at almost all top paying carriers - they're seniority based but most quit when they don't make the top money on the best run in the newest truck after two months.

Rates have been stagnant for many years. Until rates go up, carriers will be limited as to how much they can afford to pay drivers. That seems to be what is missing in this conversation. Until we see more stabiliy in the economy and shippers and brokers willing to pay higher rates, we are likely to see wages remain about where they currently stand. Higher wages are being paid to those with longevity and experience.

20.00$ an hour these day's ,is not good money.your not going to get that wage for tenty four hours a day. if you get 20.00$ for let say 12-13 hours a day so 260.00 and your attache to your truck for 24 hours, maintaining your equipement to some level that shows your responsible and professionel, after your 70 hr week you would grosse 1400.00$ and after tax -30 - 33 percent you would have 980.00$.include your 34 hour reset and you can work 3 weeks out of the month approx, you would net average in a month 2940.00$ for again average 210 hours of work. minus your road expenses wich varies butusualy 30.dollar a day on the road averaging 630.00$ for your three weeks leaving you with 2310.00$ to take home and cover your rent ,food, electrical bill, and others insurance, well it doesn't leave much to live and look after yourself.it is not an outrageous wage and should certainly be considered by companies to retain good drivers. but with all the complaining in the trucking, and many drivers beleiving that one should eat nothing while learning, simply because they did it years ago is not right.we all know the cost of living has gone up alot over the last decade and you would need at least that wage to survive and better yourself.the only reason it's not happening in my eyes is that the drivers that have a reasonable dood paying driving position ,protect it to the far extremes and dont want anybody to better themselfs as the could be competion,so let's see it in a different eye,if not drivers will work for chump change ,it would force other drivers to take on the poor paying jobs as well,or no goods would be delivered, cause no one wants to work for such a low wage, they cant affor to.if this happens many drivers wont like the extra work from deliveries for chump change and will be force to do it. reality check here my friends we have to pay new drivers a reasonable wage or simply there wont be any,to do the dirty work, and you will have to do it.you cant keep what you have unless you share a bit. it's happening right now ,it's not a shortage as some say,it's a lack of interrest due to low wages, sometimes poverty wages.you want to see it get better stop working for the man for free, put your foot down and say no.look after newbies we need them.help with your knowledge and wisdom not with harsh put downs and the god to do your time boy stuff, there is alot of room for improving and it would start with the drivers.equality in pay is what is needed regardless of what some say.
