Self-Protection

For protection I only use a tinfoil hat.

 

I'm not a confrontational person and have never had a problem with anyone. Knock on wood so far so good. It's just not worth dealing with people. I'm also a life member of the NRA but don't carry in my truck not say its a bad thing , problem is that every police officer doesn't know the regs all the time and then you could be in a real jam. Just my two cents.

 

This company's policy prohibits weapons.

 

Pretty much every company's policy prohibits weapons. The company lawyers make them do it. That way, if an altercation happens and a bad guy gets shot, the company has a legal defense against the inevitable lawsuit.

Or, put simply...

Get caught with a gun, may get fired.
Get caught without a gun, may get killed.

Your choice.

 

A pair of scissors is really handy for opening bags of snacks. I picked up a set of Fiscars from wally world that split apart and can also be used as a knife.

 

I'm going out on a limb and assuming a good many of those adamantly against carrying a concealed handgun have never delivered in a really hairy area populated or frequented by gangs and other undesirables in the middle of the night or wee hours of the morning. Doesn't happen all the time but I can recall a few times throughout the years being in some really awful areas where all the hammers, tire thumpers, etc. wouldn't have mattered at all should the congregation near the docks, warehouse district, railroad tracks or corner decide to rush the truck or driver. Cell phones can give some a false sense of security these days but for those who were driving before the advent of cell phones ... old habits die hard.

 

my permit is issued by the state I reside in but other states recognize it. This is called reciprocity. there are currently 38 states that have reciprocity with my home state. Therefor I can legally carry concealed in those states.

 

Don't forget your tools, too. I like the Craftsmen sets. Got mine in one of those plastic tool trays w/handle. It is about 20" x12" x10"H, and has a convenient handle on it. It's down to right by the other seat. I put a big ol' can of 'Wasp and Hornet Killer' in case I ever get into some of those Africanized Honey Bees, or wasps, etc. at a Shipper or Receiver. Ya never know. Might work good to squirt in some fool's eye too, if he was breakin' in while I was goin' out the other side, hehe. My tool tray also has a nice fillet knife w/that 8" blade on it. I like to fillet crappie, bass,,,etc. Never know when you can fish on a little stream. Might need to do some cleaning the fish. It is within reach. probably could use for self defense too, tho in almost a million miles never have needed to. Dual purpose things. Think about it.

 

You remind me of a friend who carries bear repellent ... for those times he camps and parks in the wilderness, of course.

 

To each his own but that's the thought process behind the people that get stuck in a bad spot with nothing to defend themselves with. You can burry your head in the sand for as long as you'd like but your "wits" and keeping your head on a swivel will do you no good when trouble comes looking for you. No one looks for those situations for entertainment they just arise out of no where. Do most people get mugged in broad daylight with a hundred people around or in a alleyway in the middle of the night with no one around? Just sayin...


but back to the topic I always carry a fixed blade knife on me at all times and always a bunch more in the truck. Now that I drive local and deliver fuel to some sketchy places at night I make sure my knife is even easier to get at just in case.
