I can't say that I have not made U-turns, but I always try to do them in a parking lot. Too many DWHUA drivers to attempt it on the roads. I've also had to turn around by backing across a 2-lane highway. This is in the middle of B.F.E. and being able to see at least 1/2 mile in both directions. Just this past Monday I had to turn around. Luckily there was a frontage street, so I used it to get back to where I needed to.

Been a few years since i have been that far south on 900 west, but aren't there alot of places he could of turned around in?
-
company policies or insurance stipulations and concerns are another subject, but there is nothing wrong or illegal about making uturnsCertifiedSweetie and DrtyDiesel Thank this.

Depends on where you are and conditions. There are LOTS of places it is REAL wrong to even consider a u turn. Legal will vary from place to place. Had to do it myself a few times in places I probably shouldn't have. Waited for right time and made it #### quick. lolCertifiedSweetie Thanks this.

the way into ANY area is on whatever street that runs through that area. in an given peace of land in any country.
river doesn't matter as there are bridges. freeway doesn't matter as that's only on one side of the street.
there are tons of parking lots. and there are tons of streets. there was absolutely NO justification to make a uturn on the street itself. a street that's also very well traveled. -
Well, you have to use that road to get into that area, no other options. There are no bridges to come in from Chesterfield, and you can't cross the freeway to come in from the east. People also use that street when the freeway is a pita and they don't want to run clear up to Redwood. Traffic really moves on that street so it's a viable option.
Terrible place to turn around during morning rush. -
It was a car that ran into a truck - should have read the news article with Old Dominion being the subject offender.
U-turns are NOT permitted by commercial vehicles on traveled roadways - that's what I learned in an accredited driving school many many years ago. If you need to make a U-turn, you do it off the traveled portion of the roadway or, go down the road to where you can safely go around the block. I've driven as much as 15 miles to turn around because I missed my turn but a U-turn?... that is a preventable and it's my fault if anyone hits me (whether or not I checked, rechecked or was out in the middle of nowhere).
Any professional driver knows that.

The way I read it EZX1100 was referring a discussion he had elsewhere about a truck that hit a car making a u-turn. Where does it say u-turns can't be made in a commercial vehicle? Company's and schools want to discourage drivers from doing one because some people don't think or even check before doing one. Of course if when doing a u-turn a accident happens the person making the u-turn is at fault and that's in any vehicle. It's making a unsafe u-turn. Same thing with making a left turn through oncoming traffic. You make a left turn when oncoming traffic has the right of way and get into a accident it's the fault of the driver turning left unless oncoming traffic was supposed to stop.
