Thought So. Job hunting is always a challenge, to leave the known for the hopefully better unknown.

Sitting here at the Colton drop yard finishing my 10. I had three picks yesterday, Millard in Mira Loma, Melissa's in LA (I never want to go back there) and Gourmet Trading in LA (also never want to go back there). I started my day at the TA west in Ontario. Some brilliant person in produce had set a 12:30 appointment there and I was instructed to do it first. They were amazingly fast, but it was a single pallet, which was bad enough, but the single loose case of product sitting on top was a bit much. They didn't see the problem until I told them I wouldn't take it that way unless they took responsibility for ANY damage. Still I was out of there in just over an hour.

On to Melissa's. Anyone who has been there knows it is a royal pain to back into a dock designed for box trucks. I got there at 2:30 local and didn't get a door until 6. Then my fork lift driver went to lunch before he did anything. I got 5 pallets there evening out my load, yay!

Gourmet Trading is a postage stamp at the end of a cul de sac right in the heart of the rental car return area for LAX. I sat in the street for 20 minutes waiting to make the left onto the street they were on. Then Dollar rent a car called the cops because all of the big trucks were blocking the street. Of course I'm at the end of the line so I get the stern talking to about being double parked. When I asked the officer what my alternatives would be given that I'm on a dead end street full of trucks with nowhere to go, his response was "you're the truck driver, figure it out". No tickets, we tightened up the line and got everyone moved up past the parked cars. I sat in the street watching my clock run down.

I got out of there with 1:21 left on my 14 and nowhere to park. Colton was 71 miles away, so I made a run for it, since it was midnight local. I pulled in and change to on-duty with 2 minutes left on my clock. Can't leave here until noon local. Headed back to Ft. Worth with this 8 pallets for Target. Then to the yard, I guess Safety needs to talk to me about hitting the debris on the road in the dark, SOP for anything called an accident I guess, and I need to get my med qual card renewed.

Holy crap man. I saw you at the yard Thursday I believe. I just got my truck ready and was working on getting my pre-trip and you said to me that you got fired but then Came to Dallas and was un-fired. I suspect that was you anyway. Hope you are doing better this week.

Did someone say this is when the freight slows down for Stevens?

I left the yard on 12/30 :and have not sat still for more than 12 hrs and that was just once...

Dallas to NJ, PA to LA, LA to Atlanta, TN to Ft Worth, Dallas to Los Lunas, Cactus TX to OH, OH to CT, NY to Atlanta, now Newberry, SC to Haslet. All in three weeks and having the flu for the last three days... everything on time, even with breakdown... but I think they are finally going to make me holler Uncle.

As I parked this evening I have 34 minutes remaining on my 70... will get back 9:38 tonight and 10:04 tomorrow night. This load is due in Haslet Mon at 10am... 1075 miles away. Can probably just make it there will not be able to leave and will only get back 4hrs Monday night.

If this is the slow time... I can't wait to see the busy time.

The truck gods must be smiling on you. I had a Dr. appointment that I had to make after dumb/dumber. We got in on Saturday, appointment was Wednesday. Took grad class on Friday. Assigned a truck Friday but there is a catch. It is at KW for a "survey". Won't be back until Monday. OK gotta see the company doc on Monday anyway. So now it's been a full week. Work through my safety sheet go to get the keys still no truck. It should be ready by noon they say. Monday at 16 no truck. It is ready but they are not there yet. Gonna bring truck to yard and get another. Tuesday, DM calls wanting to know why I'm not on the yard. No truck and there is snow on the ground. She (pre-alliance DM) informs me that I have Winter-II added to my clearance sheet. Take class at 13:00, according to shop they should be driving truck over after snow clears. At 16 on Tuesday I check again. Truck is finally there but the previous drivers stuff is still in it. We are now on day 10 of no income. Driver assures me he will have all of his stuff out of truck that evening. So I ask about any quirks the truck has. Yes, check engine light frequently (that is why it was in the shop. He had only had it a month). Now I'm frustrated. He also won't sign out of q-com or at least let me get truck verified that cruise/jake settings are correct. Wednesday morning I get possession of the truck. He was a heavy smoker so it stinks but I think I can deal with it so opt to not have detailed. Go to bay 7 to get signed off on, dude tells me to park behind Fire-lane and wait. I finally realized that three hours have passed (ok i fell asleep waiting) he is gone. Other shop dude checks it and signs off. Finally start getting things moved from home to truck but we own a KIA so two trips plus take momma to and from work. I am beat. Thursday after multiple trips back and forth between my DM and dispatch I get a load assigned at 9:45 to pick up at noon for the first of four stops in the DFW area. Oh and I must do a pre-trip, and fuel, and see my DM with my preplan b4 I leave the yard. I clear the gate with 5 minutes to drive from the yard to Arlington. Then to Jack-N-Box on Mountain something-or-other and then to this place called Taylor Farms Dallas (MHO should not be a place for a new driver to go) and finally FT. Worth. I have literally run my hours and stopped for only 10 hours and was setting there waiting on the Q-Com to set me to legal so I could run stopping only to use the restroom no I made it to the receiver with 30 minutes to spare. I figured making OTD peeps in Dallas would be happy and set me up with another load. I got a preplan at 11am this morning and acknowledged. But i am still waiting for the trip so i suspect it went to another driver. I sure hope this isn't how it will be all the time. I'm too old for it. I probably should have gone with a company that has more drop and hook.

Just out of curiosity do we have much freight moving along I-20 east of Dallas. My son is now living off of I-20 at the 540 marker. I sure would like to see him as much as possible. I miss him bunches.

At the yard for my 90 day stuff. Accident review board this morning before Winter Workshop II was incredible lol. It took an hour and a half. Kip was about to pull what hair he has left out of his head lmao. Everyone bickering and asking crazy questions. And coming up with off the wall scenarios as to what may have caused the accident lol. I hope I never have to do a workshop on a Saturday again ... uggggg

During my entire time with Stevens I think that I (we, was still with trainer) ran I-20 once between Dallas and Atlanta if I remember right.
