    Hi all.

I am immigrating to Canada in mid-2013. I am currently in trucking back home in South Africa and would like to continue in the industry in Canada. I have a few questions for you guys as i am not familiar with everything over there yet. Please try and help me out if you can :)

I want to purchase 5 tractors & trailers and operate them throughout Canada and the USA. I will be located in Regina, SK.

    1. Can you actually make any money with a Mercer/Landstar type company if you pay a driver or will this only work if you are an O/O?
    2. Would you suggest leasing the trucks to a company or using different brokers for loads?
    3. If leasing the trucks to one company is a good option, which companies can you recommend?
    4. Which type of work (van, reefer, flatbed etc) would you recommend concentration on and why?
    5. I know this one is a very broad-based question, but assuming average miles/month and average expanses etc, how much do you think each truck could profit on a monthly basis? Averages...?
    6. ANY suggestions and advice you may have are most welcome!!!

I hope some of you will be able to give me some advice here and steer me in the right direction :)

    Thanks all!

When you are based in Canada and you haul into the US, your next load must go back into Canada. Research and find out who has the freight going both ways, then make your decisions on equipment and contracts etc.

So, you're currently in a third world country, Africa; wondering how you "saved" enough money to do what you propose to do.

He's from South Africa, not the back woods of Ethiopa. Funny how you assume someone in Africa can't have money from operating their own business.

Last I checked Africa was a continent. South Africa is a country and not third world. How he got the money is really none of our business,

Just joined the forum and you're already insulting people? Good start. Seems like you've got a bit to learn about interacting with others.

I wonder the same thing about people in the hills of West Virginia. How do you buy a $150,000 Peterbilt but live in a $5,000 single wide?
