Hey all,
Joined the board actually looking for information on tax returns and decided to join anyways. I've been employed with DOT Foods since November 2009 as a warehouse material handler in NY. I'm also a college graduate with a bachelors in Criminology which hasn't helped me one bit in becoming a police officer. So this isn't exactly what I wanted to be doing, but DOT is a very gracious company and if you work in the warehouse for 1 yr they pay $4,600 towards tuition at National Tractor Trailor School (NTTS), if you give them 3 yrs as a driver. I still had to pay roughly $650 of my own money, but its a great pay increase from working in the warehouse.
I graduated with a 97.95% and lost no points on my NYS DMV road test. NTTS told me with my grades, DMV results, and a flawless driving record I could work for anyone who was trying to recruit at the school. ( TMC, Stevens, H.O.W., Gypsom, etc) But even after these companies pitched themselves to us, DOT still far exceeded everyone in pay and benefits. I already have 2 weeks vacations given to me every year and working on a 3rd in another 3.5 yrs.
Ill be going into my 3rd week of training Monday morning, and so far its much better than being cooped up inside with no windows for 10 hours a day. So far I am liking everything, granted I am not married and no kids this isn't a hard thing to adapt to.
