Nothing like letting your feet breathe. +1 Plus when it's time to shower at the truck stop you can just grab your bag and go. No need to change footwear.

    Cop out.

It's called personal responsibility and discipline.

I am more impressed with a driver who can handle and deal with a truck that's been totally opened up and drive it with responsibility and discipline than a company schmuck. They are more skilled and a better employee.

    Try owner/operator.

The reason we have governed trucks, eobr's and other such fun crap being stuffed down our throats is unskilled drivers with no discipline and responsibility screwing things up.

I got through a metro area and every mega-carrier that's governed at 62 is Passing me at 62 in a 55. Why? No discipline to slowdown.

These carriers force it onto the drivers.

If you've really got 36 years experience, you must be a company hack who needs a baby sitter telling him how to drive to earn a living.

I personally enjoy the freedoms I have to exercise self-discipline and personal responsibility to do my job without conditions forced upon me like a governed truck and eobr.

I guess the only way I can answer your question is by suggesting a resolution to follow: Don't be in a hurry and obey the rules of the road. Speed limit means 'maximum allowable speed'... it doesn't mean you have to do it. 65 for me is just 62 and stay to the right. 55 is 57 (I do want to get there) and 45 is 45 (don't go fast in a construction zone). Pretty basic stuff. It doesn't hurt to go slower in town because the 4-wheelers are going to be doing a lot of stupid all around you so just let them kill themselves without getting involved in their mission to do so.

I don't go out of my way to be courteous because I'm not licensed to do things that are contrary to law (like directing traffic). Flashing your lights to tell someone they can cross in front of you is encouraging them to violate right of way so just don't do it. Obey the law and expect that others won't.

    It's not rocket science.

That driver you heard is one of many that hot-dogged and did stupid things. I'm glad someone got him off the road but sad to hear he's still allowed to collect some of my hard-earned income as a result of his stupidity.

If you think this is a 'free country', you are wrong. You do not have the freedom to break laws and regulations. One of the most ignorant things anyone can say.

Jealous? Hahaha! Far from it. Sorry if I don't make 22 cents a mile and I'm sorry if I don't have to run 'outlaw' to make a decent living. I wouldn't be surprised if I make twice as much as you working half the hours. Jealous? Keep dreaming. You're just gonna end up being another statistic standing in the unemployment line, after your irresponsibility lands you in an accident. And don't give me the: "I know my limitations" shenanigans either, because you don't.

so i did my kenan road test today....i passed but it wasnt the best. they said the one thing i didnt do enough was down shift. i admittedly got into a habit while doing flatbeds of just slowing into a stop, and then putting it into second or third gear when stopped. i CAN downshift, ill just have to get into habit. I also grinded a few gears. I was nervous a bit, and i never was in a Mack before....im still training with another guy for a week or two, then they might have me do another test...ugh! and they said id be on 90 day probationary period....all this over downshifting! oh well, its easily correctable...

Flip flops are fine if you are driving and are by yourself. You don't go into a shipper/receiver wearing them though. Are you a bum or are you a professional? You really think you are going to be treated with respect showing up to a customer looking like that? Personally I would be utterly embarrassed walking into a customer looking like that! Especially if I had to converse with a customer or office associate who is dressed up for their job. Could you imagine what they are thinking of you showing up looking like that? God forbid you have to talk to an attractive woman who is dressed nicely and you show up looking like a shmuck! Have some class! Show some cooth and be professional representative for your company! Then you wonder why truckers get a bad rap and are treated like scum.

You don't live on the beach, you don't surf, chances are you have ugly, gangly, white, stank feet (possibly even yellow toe nails) and nobody else wants to see that!

LOL Most shippers/receivers don't care. Well one told me to "put shoes on" but that rarely happened. That was back in my OTR days when I would be in warm areas like Cali or Florida. Now I wear steel toe boots since it's winter here. And my feet are nice looking btw :)
