Good thread, I might be in the same boat soon (newbie flatbedder). What kind of spare equipment should I look into buying i.e. torches, flashlights, hammers. I'm new to trucking in general so any tips would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Thanks guys.

A decent maglight, a claw hammer for pounding nails in along with a crowbar to pull them back out.

If I can get away with it. $10 Walmart Chuck Taylor knock offs! If I need steel tips I throw on the Walmart Brahmas.

Way back we were paving the lot of a rental uniform place and I did some dumpster diving and got a nice Red Kap work jacket that I still have over 20 years later!

I do the same but I buy the $16 Wranglers. They last twice as long as the Faded Glory ones. I figure the extra $$ spent is worth the extra use. I toss my jeans after about 12-14 months unless they get some really bad grease on them, then I toss them earlier. Buy the darker colored ones as well, dirt barely shows on them.

I always wear New Balance all terrain tennis shoes and throw on the CAT boots when needed or its wet/muddy out. I'm like u and comfort while climbing all over a load is important to me.

Are you kidding. We are in the truck for days and load seldom. I wear sweat pants and steel toed sneakers. In winter lined pants are nice. I agree with the rain gear. Of course the most important is a good pair of gloves. Be sure to always take a hard hat and safety vest. Don't try to over anticipate. Buy a hammer and a winch bar and buy the rest as need arises. Good Luck

I like to have several pairs of gloves. If they get wet you have plenty of back ups and if its real cold i'll keep a pair by the heater and switch them out to try and keep warm.

Good rain gear is a must.

The key to rain gear is that it breathes. The cheap stuff will make you sweat so bad your'e better off getting rained on.
