Too All Newbies

Sorry to hear that one. I too have been through an accident that was no fault of mine where there was 2 deaths. That was back in 1991 and I still to this day remember every little detail. I can't shake it but just like Uncle Bill says the best thing is to get back up it that truck and keep going. I was pulling a truck and trailer loaded with gasoline when a car out of nowhere passed me on a two lane desert road. Another car was comong the other way and both him and I moved over onto the shoulder enough so he could get by. But the other car coming at us panicked and went too far and dropped off into the dirt. He oversteered and when the tires grabbed he shot in front of the car passing me and both of them just went up in the air and exploded. One of the cars hit my trailer and shaved the tank but did not rupture the skin of the tank.

My boss came out and said I did nothing he wouldn't have done. He said it was their time and not mine. So you've just got to keep telling yourself it was not your fault. I know you've been over the accident in your mind a million times and that's normal. And I know you're tired of hearing others say it wasn't your fault. You just have to remember you're not alone. There are others that have been through this too and we're dealing with it just like you are. Life goes on and best thing you can do is pass your experience onto the new drivers. Sorry to hear/read that. You should get professional help, it will help you a lot. It would change your life after what you experienced, and hopefully get you and your mind back to normal. Wish you the best man. Take care.

 

on the jersey turnpike, i had a guy who ate "####" and rammed a median, he wanted to get on and he did not yeild or even slow, i could not change lanes, to get in the left land, tooo heavy traffic, i saw him comeing and knew there was nothing i could do for him. i waas carrying paper, 79,844 pounds, there was now ay to do anything for him. his suv hit the median on the righ hand side, he wanted to get on the highway and i just could not move over. not sure what he was thinking but he ended up in the hospital. not sure what happened. i am glad he hit the median and not the truck if he hit the truck i am sure there would have been many injuries, heavy traffic, jersey tp, at 5.30 pm, and you all know people in jersy drive like animals.

 

Sorry you had to go through that , I Khow that is something that you will never forget. My situation , I had to hurt someone in 2005, ( Self Defense ) It has completely changed my life, There is not one day that goes by that I don't think about it . but I have to put it in the back of my mind . That has been 2 years ago . And it almost drove me nuts but I finially realized that the only thing I could have done different was to not be at that place at that time. and I am same as you , If I had known that was going to happen I would not have been there. As a student I have had recruiter after recruiter talk to me about how great driving is and it almost lulls you into thinking that everyday you will have an option to avoid "preventable" accidents. As hard as was to read the lines you typed I really appreciate you sharing this with everyone especially a newbie. I take the training serviously but, this is further reinforcement.

the thing that worries me about me being a driver as a 1 ton cargo van, is 1 accident that almost caused me my life back in 02 i was driving home from work at like 8am in the morning i didn't have no nap in the afternoon i wasn't tired thats why i didn't have a nap i worked a double that day i left late b/c no cashiers that morning and i was getting really really tired, and i was driving home made about 6 miles of a 8 mile trip and i fell asleep at that wheel the whole way i was driving a 89 ford tempo, and i hit a 01 chevy 1 ton dually and i went into his lane and he went left and we hit the passenger sides and i survived, i didn't have enough courage to drive again for about 4wks it gave me a shock of a lifetime my dad had to drive me everywhere. and a friend of me had me drive a 91 dodge laser in early december that was the first car i drove since that uncreatful day but you know something it really made me aware of the dangers of the road either you are drive a lil car or a semi with a full load there is always a danger of killing some1. In otherwords you won't get over it you just need to get back in the saddle again and drive b/c you are still very lucky you still have your life
