Weather they pay detention or not depends on the agreements on the contract. They pay prime a really high detention because they have more empty trailers on hand in return if trailers not loaded in a timely manner.

Basically the rule of thumb is... If they have to reschedule the delivery appointment because the load cannot get there legally on time, detention is paid. A year ago we were still on paper logs so an 800 or 900 mile over nighter was still doable. Now that we are on e-logs, that is a different story.
If they relay the load cuz you can't deliver on time due to Tyson's screw up, but they still get the load to the cu stomer on time, then you don't get detention cuz the load made it on time. An example of this happened to me last month. I was at Tyson 12 hours past the drop dead time. I couldn't make the delivery but they relayed it 2 more times and the load got delivered on time, so I didn't get detention. I did however get money from JCT for the hold up. Not every driver will get this. -
Ah. Well at least there is something; a driver has some chance of being compensated. When I was tugger I thought the setup with Tyson was a little one sided at the time.

No dedicated, at least that's what they say. Tyson, Wal-Mart, Otis Spunkmeyer, LePrino Cheese, Pilgrim's Pride, Sanderson Farms, Marshall Durbin, a million cold storage coolers, bottles from Mexico.. Pretty much expect each load to weigh an average of 40,000 and have a live unload on one end of it.
