Ever feel like Quitting!

Yessir, every time I have break down, run short of money, lose an account, freight gets slow, etc.. Maybe about 3 or 4 times a year.
Then I think about the good times, and remember why I became an O/O. Freedom to make most of my own decisions. Be my own boss.My choice, my decision, my profits.
Then I think about other company drivers I know, and how most have little input into doing their job, other than driving from point A to point B.
So, I get a good nights sleep, and the next day try to start figuring out how to solve my problem. So far I am glad I remained self employed.

Hang in there. You can figure it out.

 

I think everyone does at some time or another. I know I have in the past 20yrs or so.
Hang in there though. I spoke to a company driver I know today, who is feeling the pinch etc. I worked out what I had took home after my fuel so far this year (2 weeks), and put a smile on my face. He was not so happy though...
Breakdowns are a fact of life, no matter the maintenance we do etc. Keep yer chin up, it will get better!

Many owner ops have called it quits period once the fuel started skyrocketing.Everything is going up up up except the pay.How is anybody suppose to make it on double the price of everything and the pay has'nt went up.Hope it gets better for you real quick.

 

My boyfriend isn't an O/O but belive he he's feeling the pinch.Checks are very low with the taxes.He's afraid he's going to get evicted.Told him he can' live with me.Also him and I will be teaming in April so that'll be an exta $850.00 for him.He's planning on giving his trailer back to his landlord.

 

I believe every o/o at one time or another has raised up their arms and said yuck it..
I know last year was a really bad year for me. Had a bad bridge hit and had to look for new carrier after 10 years where I was.
But I got hired on with a company I knew. Sold my big trl..
Was rough and then the break downs, that were not in the budget. Told my wife, I had it.. But we survived. Tell him to hang in there..
But we have regrouped and down sized the freight we are hauling and enjoying life a little better..

 

my truck is for sale. when it sells i will be quiting. i WONT ever go bwck to being a co driver again though. at least not otr

 

Same here, Oct 2012 was rough for me, two times on the hook, oil pump, turbo..... couldn't get off the yard if I tried plus work was slow.

Thought about pulling the pin several times and run back to the co. side til i remembered what they told a co. driver friend of mine at review time.........

" Your making all the pct. your going to make, your topped out, no more money"

That's a motivational speech to me....... I got my arse back to work and got the dawg on her feet......

 

@2yrs ago my engine blew, same month long time friend of mine died (My German Shepherd of 10+ yrs). Was a bad injector cup which over fuelled No1 cylinder, then spun a rod bearing, and so on.
Had to get a hook for the 700 mile trip home, which cost an arm and a leg.
Sourced a used motor, put it in, went back to work.
Ran a load out to Wa, reload in Or, make it to Id and the turbo let go. $6500 on this truck for a turbo assembly. All I could do was laugh.....that or boo hoo!
Took @6 months to get back to normal, but been going good since then.
Hang in there, it will get better.

My goodness Martin, that's one hell of a spell! This thread makes my minuscule complaints being a company driver irrelevant!
