Now that you have your own authority you can cut rates to get customers and make even less money than you ever thought possible!

we usually haul temperature controlled pharmaceuticals loads. for example one of our loads picked up in hillsboro, OR to Sacramento paid $5.14/mile before diesel and it was one skid of a cancer drug that had to kept cold. and I know our carrier made a ungodly amount if they paid us that.

Thats a good rate but thats only one load also. You will be responsible for booking your loads and establiahing your relationships with brokers or customers. Having your own authority is a royal pita especially when it comes to dealing with brokers. Just yesterday my truck was 1720 over gross and the broker actually asked me to deliever it. I told him absolutely not and then he offered me a whopping $25 to take the load back 60 milesto get 2 bundles taken off. Got my driver back to the loading point called the broker said rate was now $1200 or i was taking everything off and billing them $400 for time and frustration. They came back at the original rate plus $25. Said its coming off and hung up sent them a $400 invoice today. Your own authority is a total ##### i would much rather lease after dealing with this headache yea moneys better but its not enough to justify the headache. Then again ill never drop my authority least i have some say over what im paid and i dont have to deal with the b.s. of being on the road for 3-4 weeks at a time itd probably kill me leaving the family for that long.

Buddy... You should have crunched some numbers prior to diving into your own authority. Its easier when your are leased to a company that has loads for you, it becomes much harder when you yourself start booking them. You need to sit down and figure out what you need to make to be profitable..
