Posting: Jamaica (Queens) NY to Miami, TEAM load, p/u ASAP, deliver before noon tomorrow. Posted rate is $2500 on 1300 loaded miles.

I call, let him know I have a team ready to pick up now.

    He sounds excited.

Him: "You have a team truck and you can deliver before noon tomorrow? It HAS to be there before noon tomorrow!"

Me: "Yes, 15 minutes away and ready to be loaded."

Pulls load from the board, gets my MC, callback number and email to send the paperwork.

Me: "We haven't discussed rate yet. What are you paying?"

    Him: "Oh, $2500.00"

Me: "Ok, OUR rate for this load is going to be $5400.00, since you're wanting a team expedite truck."

    --silence--

Him: "www we can't pay that much"

Me: "Ok, thanks. We'll keep looking then."

    -click-

Whoever takes that load for that rate is either stupid, or it will be a solo driver with loose leaf logs.

Some times this whole business just makes you feel like a prostitute. You will stick anything in your box for a price.

Speak for yourself, sister. I like "escort" better. A much classier term and suggests better rates.

May I suggest "Courtesan"? A classy, educated, goal-oriented dedicated contractor?

Sorry but I don't see you pulling very many loads at the rates you are quoting..

I don't see him pulling many loads at the rates they are quoting! Some of these brokers think we pull these loads with mules that just eat grass and use horse shoes and that while said mule is under the load the rider is fast asleep because the mule is on cruise control and has been implanted with a gps that guides it to the destination with no input from the rider.

You're exactly right. I drive less miles for more money. If you want to load my truck, it's going to be for a fair rate. But know that a load on my truck will get there when it's supposed to be there, with no excuses.

I understand but if you are twice the going rate for your truck, no shipper will pay you that kind of money.. Just saying know the lanes and the rates and you should have no problem keeping your truck busy but you won't turn a wheel quoting rates like that
