I just got my CDL and have offers from Averitt, Roehl and Epes and don't know which one to give a shot? My number one thing is hometime, so which company is best when it comes to that? Also consistent miles are important. I would like to be remain with the company for more than five years as once I get settled I like to stay where I am. Another thing is that I currently live in VA outside of Richmond, but am planning on moving to SC. Which company would be a good choice for that? I really want to drive in states below VA and try to limit my travels to say Ohio or New Jersey just for weather and traffic reasons. So with all that being said Which company is the best for me? Some experiences with these companies would be great! Thanks to all!
Averitt, Roehl or Epes

Pick a company that has a close buy terminal or dedicated accounts buy you . And based in virginia like I am I can tell you that you will be competing for the south loads with senior drivers so be prepared to do some northeast loads I have been doing northeast regional and dedicated freight for almost 10 years now it pays higher and I am used to it

Roehl seems to have set the bar with some of the best (if not the best) hometime plans, but like the previous poster said, if you're not near a sizeable city or roehl terminal it may make it difficult to get home as often. 7/3-7/4 fleet will offer some hometime assurance (but less miles and slip seating) but (I think) availability would depend on if there are other drivers in your neck of the woods to swap a seat with. The recruiters for roehl seem more honest than most so I'd ask them about the last point.

EPES runs very heavily through Virginia and the Carolinas. Almost every customer I've ever serviced in that area is loaded with EPES trucks. I also happen to know that EPES offers variable pay for short runs and NE runs. Roehl does have probably one of the best home time packages of any of the larger carriers. Averitt is ok if you want automatic trucks and a strict uniform policy.
wheels4reelz Thanks this. -
Concur...and generally you must live within 150 miles of either a terminal or drop yard to be on one of the hometime fleets (7/7, 14/7, 7/3/7/4). An easy way to find out is to go to their website, click on "find a fleet" and enter your zip code. It will show you the fleet(s) available in your area.

Epes Transport
smaller than the Mega companies.
very good maint. on equipment.
get home weekly. used be every weekend, lol. some still do .
drove for them a few yrs ago. left only because I don't like running the Northeast.
you don't say where you live, so that may be a factor.
do a search for epes posts. there are a few drivers on here.
