I have a predator 10-k antenna with a single coil. I love the antenna I have been running it for four years now and have not had a problem. I run a Stryker 497 into a straight 4 pill Dave made amp. I have another tractor that I am setting up and I wanna know if anyone has used the 10-k antenna with the double coil? I think they call it sw double coil it will have a similar set-up with a 4 pill amp. The reason I am looking at the double coil is I'm running into a small height issue with the single coil. I may be able to trim the whip, but they say the sw double is made to have a shorter whip and still achieve a 1.1 swr. Any input would help
    Thanks,

I have the double coil 10k as well as the single coil. I switch back and forth. I dont run them with an amp but a Galaxy 95T2. SWR is great on both. Trim the whip as necessary to achieve the desired swr.

Some have said the single coil is better for audio. And I really like the single coil on my one tractor. But I don't think I'll have the room on the other. Do u recognize any big difference btw the two or is it minimal?

The double coil makes the antenna shorter.
This helps with problems with heights.
Good audio is born at the radio, not the antenna.

Apologies for the hijack, but have more Predator questions, this time from an official cb dummy.
Mine has two external coils, top coil being shorter than bottom.
Is this considered the double coil antenna you'll previously mentioned? I'm guessing this antenna is around five years old.
It is presently center mounted on the back sleeper wall of my truck, (T800 KW with walk in sleeper), between the two stacks. Years ago, I had pulled the upholstery out the way (BIG JOB!) to run coax, and bolt a 3"x3" by 15" long piece of aluminum angle to the sleeper wall then in turn mounted a different brand antenna on the aluminum angle. Now, the Predator sits there, but the top coil is about 1" above sleeper roof, which naturally puts the upper part of shaft, and whip even higher. The roof and stacks barely clear the upper part of a couple of loading racks, which really plays heck with the Predator's whip. What I was wondering, is if I could shorten the Predator's shaft, or eliminate a coil. Took it apart thinking I could cut the bottom (longest) shaft, then re thread it, but I don't recognize the threads. I would like to shorten it enough to have only the whip sticking above the roof, and if possible install a spring between the shaft and the whip. Digging around in my stuff, I found a whip with such a spring, but not as long as the Predator, and naturally the bottom of the spring appears to be threaded for something close to 1/4x28 threads, which doesn't come close to what it needs to be in order to attach it to the Predator.
Taking the upholstery down to lower the aluminum angle bracket is an option, but one heck of a time consuming job, not to mention plugging the five bolt holes and hole for coax ( which would be to high for new location) in sleeper wall. Another option is to switch to a shorter antenna, but so far the Predator seems to be a very good antenna.

Open to any suggestions, once again, apologies for the hijack, and thanks in advance.

Shortening your antenna will mess it up.

I had the same height issue on a 379. I started out with a singal coil and was over 13'6". I talked with Kale (the manufacturer of preditors), and he sent me the second coil to add on. It worksed perfect, got me down to height and is the best antenna I've ever had.
