I picked up a load of odd lengths of metal once at a place in Pueblo looked much worse thand that. Or, rather, it was on a saturday on a pre-loaded trailer and I had to strap it down myself. i walked around the trailer for 1/2 hr and couldn't figure out how to strap it and keep it on so called my boss and refused the load. Another hero showed up and told me I didn't know how to drive and took it. Couple of months later that yo-yo got fired for dropping a load on the ground.Treefork Thanks this.

i'm curious as to what driving has to do with a specific load that one doesn't want to haul.

Apparently you're a bad driver if you can't secure everything under the sun

I would back SHC's opinion that you should be fine as long as you do not exceed 53' between trailer and load. You could verify this by looking online state by state. Doesn't Roehl have a permit or safety person that could answer this question for you?SHC Thanks this.

Yeah it was more for my own curiosity as to where it was written. I knew 48" overhang was legal, I just wanted to know where the regulation was and where they measure from. It was almost exact and if a Leo wanted to be a stickler it could be very close.

48" of overhang is legal, as long as there in 0 overhang on the front. As soon as you go 1" of overhang on the front, you now can only go 47" on the rear.... And on and on. The entire length of the load from front to back can be 53' overall. Anything over that requires a OS permit in most states.

In IL, 53' total trailer and load, but during the daytime (no weekends or holidays).... trailer and load can be up to 80 ft as long as total rig is under 100 ft
In NC the load may overhang up to 14' in the rear, but must display a flag if over 4'.
just to give you an idea of how different and goofy it gets !Treefork Thanks this.
