They are all basically the same they require a lot of maintenance, only good thing is there not tied into the engine ecm,I think one of the biggest problems persanally is they mount the doser right under the inlet of the Dpf instead of right off the turbo so the Dpf dosent get as hit as a oem system.there easy to take apart and clean but pricey our shop charges 300 to clean them if you bring them in,and a lot of the catalyst are not serviceable but we just steam clean them
Guntoter Thanks this. -
Thanks Truckmechanic.

Do you know any details about those fires?
-
Bottom line. Is it better to find a 2006 engine and retrofit a DPF system or just buy a 2011?
Any thoughts from people who actually decided one way or the other and went out and did one or the other (not just talked about doing it or "this is what I would do")? -
As with any investment, once the vehicle is a $20,000 truck which does not take long you do not have a down payment for a new unit.
I know of one company especially that ran old iron maintained meticulously, he finally bought new, he pays his drivers top money and replaced the fleet with DD15's -
And he sure made every wrench around excited - but we'll see in two years if his drivers still like him. Jumping into a sea of debt is not that smart these days either and if you think DD15 is reliable engine you know nothing
-
Carbs plan is not economically viable for companies that purchase and keep there trucks. It is viable for those companies that lease and the mega carriers that turn in there trucks at 250000 miles
-
Must be some weird coincidence but all the new rules seem to benefit big corporations

Thank you, now I know.
