It depends on where your delivery (product) will end up. If it's going into their inventory, it should come off, like now. You would think they could take it off, sign for it and stage it in the corner if they don't have time to "put it away". Then, sometimes, it's going out immediately but the other truck isn't ready to load it, so it sits in YOUR trailer while they get their act together. Then there's the "misplaced PO saga", which means they can't find the PO # so YOU sit it out until they communicate with the shipper about the product. But, I would advise to ask what's going on and is there a problem ? In a courteous manner. Everyone says they love the "freedom" of trucking, but, that's until you are held hostage by a $7 an hour clerk somewhere, right ?

I have experienced the same issue when I pulled a dry van.
And turns out most of the one getting in and out ahead of me were those stinking city LTL day cabs. It's like they would just stop working my load. Off load them then go for a smoke then start back on me till the next LTL truck showed up and repeat the same as beforeTrippy Hippy Thanks this. -
BTW my day is done and my dispatchers know that they delayed me so all is fine. The cool thing is that I managed to make my other appointments without a problem. It just sucks to see so many truckers come and go while you sit there untouched. When they finally started unloaded me they were done in about 20 minutes. Still love the job, got a good long run setup now and fm will let me go home next week to take care of some things.

One place I go to doesn't even answer the door if you try to go up to it when they start on 1st shift. They come out about an hour before they actually open up and take everyone's paperwork who's there. It's always a what they need for production situation, not who was there first or who is scheduled first. It sucks, because many times it's the same thing, first in a door, last to leave. Not much you can do about it.

Kind of like the Post Office.. You have an appt, but you will not get unloaded till after all the contract trucks are done...

What you do is make sure you park closest to the receiving door or you possibly screwed yourself. Appointments mean nothing at certain places. 9 times out of 10 the planners are going to tell you your appointment time is the time the place opens even though no appointment was set.
At places with one dock park against the dock or some weasel might sneak in behind you and park against the dock. Guess who gets unloaded first?
Then like others said there are the regulars which might come off one truck and off it goes to the customer. When a place has multiple deliveries unless you know them you don't know how their operation is ran. On the same note they don't what order the trucks showed up.
You did good newnash and not show emotions. That only makes things worse. In a situation like that you could possibly drag the pallets off yourself or let things fall the way they did. It's not the end of the world to get detention and at worse reschedule the other drops. Usually other drops are willing to work with you. Put the work off on your dispatcher or planner. They want you empty just as quick and their communication with a customer bears more weight than any driver's word. It's not a perfect world and these things will happen. It's kind of like taking the bad with the good. Save the blood pressure and take it in stride.

Evidently y'all haven't had the experience of the great 100-truck 0400 free-fer-all yet. It doesn't matter who shows up first - its first in the gate when they allow anyone one in, backed-in AND up to the window.
