I talked to one LS O/O in Indianapolis and he was home every night, pulling a flatbed.

Where you live is the freight hot spot of the country. I wouldn't see any reason you couldn't be home weekends and thru the week if you chose the right loads.

I agree. With Landstar, it's all about picking loads that get you home. Nobody makes you take a load. Like Brickman said, it also depends on where you live. If you live in a good freight area, then you can get loads to and from the house. If you live in a bad freight area, then you can get loads that go THROUGH the house like I do.

For instance, I live in Colorado where the freight sucks. The load I have on right now is from Portland, OR to Cleveland, OH. It pays $6770 or $2.76/mile. That's $6000 line haul and $770 FSC. To the truck it's $5180 for 2450 miles, or $2.11/mile to the truck. This is a legal load, not oversize.

It picked up on Wednesday the 19th, and doesn't deliver until Thursday the 27th. I got 4 days at the house for Christmas and didn't miss a week's paycheck and still put $3400.00 in the bank after fuel and all the piddly deductions. I'm at home as we speak with money sitting on my deck.

The bottom line is you can get home as often as you like and still make killer dinero if you plan it right.

I got them, but it's simple. Trailer plates don't require apportioning, and only cost me about $100/yr. I just went down to the DMV where I get my car plates and asked for trailer plates. I figured it would be WAY more expensive than that, but they didn't care that it was being pulled by a commercial vehicle...they just registered it as a regular trailer.

    Cost me $131

I would imagine that CO is similar to WY. Here I could get apportioned trailer plate ONLY if my tractor is apportioned in WY. Then the cost would have been $15 a yr for the trailer.
