Alaska-bound freight

Thanks! There's definitely some gotcha's that you wouldnt know about unless you went there already. Im just trying to pay it forward and help someone from being worked over. 4 per mile is the minimum I would ever do to haul something there. Taking anything out is a plus but you have stiff competition from the barges and other haulers up there so realisticly you will see about 1.80 a mile coming out of alaska.

 

I would like to do some ak runs to see if i like it I was wondering i been doing a lot of research on canada and permits, emanifest, pars, and paps question i have is if i added alaska and all the provinces to my cab card could I take a run up there and just buy the trip permits i need in the provenances ive been getting alot of vague answers on this subject

Yes. You will have to have a bond if you deliver US freight to Canada and another if you deliver Canadian freight to the US. You even need a bond to move US freight through Canada and deliver it to the US, as in shortcuts crossing Canada or loads to and from Alaska. You can buy trip bonds from brokers.

 

How much are the trip bonds and what is the bond for exactly

 

The respective Customs Agencies, require you to post a bond to ensure you deliver the load to where you say you will deliver it, so you don't cheat them on custom fees.

The only trip bond I have posted was Alaska to Utah or as far as Canada was concerned, crossing Canada. I went through a broker and it cost about $100.00. If you take freight from the United State and deliver into Canada a lot, you may consider posting a yearly bond, same thing taking freight from Canada and delivering into the US.

Some carriers may let you borrow their bond or even rent it to you for a trip. It could be free or whatever they charge you. You would have to have a letter from this carrier on their letterhead, authorizing you to use their bond.
