Looking to apply at Prime in the coming days for school all company drivers chime in that went through their school how long? Did that $600 per week ever fall short? if you dont go lease do they neglect you and not give you good miles? I know that during training it will prolly be a couple months that I wont be home as I live in eastern nc but once I get my truck whats odds I will be home every 3-4 weeks? Looking to clear 500+ per week and not be gone 8 weeks I know its gonna be tough and am prepared for that just getting input from other drivers thats been there and done that
one last question what is the starting pay once you finish your training and get your truck? Also are you forced to take a lightweight if you stay company and opt lease

Short of what? Of course I could have used more money lol. I had 200 loaded on my card and the rest went home to the wife.
Nope 1st week out I ran around 2500 miles, I run more or less the same now, more during the summer. You have to understand that you also have to gain the trust of your FM also. You will of course spend your time in the NE.
Shouldn't be a problem, I know my FM wants to get me home every 3 weeks if I don't have a trainee on board
Well after training you will be driving a Lightweight and get paid .40 cpm, so it should not be a problem. except those weeks when you go home you will have short weeks.
Driving a Lightweight pays you .40 cpm. and yes you will be in a Lightweight, unless you have some circumstance that convinces your FM to go to bat to get you into a Condo. But he has to justify it to his boss. -
Thanks highway101 do you still work for prime how are benefits good average not worth it. Since the lightweight are basically a one seater that kills the rider policy lol. Think I will be good at prime as long as I don't fall for dream they are gonna try and sell me and

The passenger seat can be put in if it has already been pulled. Hubby drove a lightweight, and it always had its passenger seat.

As far as benefits go, I can't speak to how good they are, but the health insurance is very expensive. Health insurance will run you anywhere from 60-100+ /wk. Vision is around $7 /wk, dental is around $4 /wk.
401k matches up to 5% the first quarter after your first full year for company drivers. You will be vested (eligible for the 5% match) after 5 years. -

He liked it fine, but he's a little guy. 5'8" and 135 on a good day. Don't ask about bad days. He doesn't need much space. But his cooler fit just fine, and w/ the Burton and trips to WM for groceries we did just fine most weeks for $$. There were a couple of glitches on their end, but easily taken care of. The only reason he's not still at Prime is that we had some family medical issues come up that necessitate him being closer to home, and being able to turn and burn on our dime. Can't do that as a company driver. And Prime's lease was not for us. It was never pushed. Ever. Both of his trainers were lease-op, one more successful than the other, but that was due to a couple of factors, one of which was business savvy. Just remember, every time you go home you are losing $$. We don't live directly in Prime's lanes, so we didn't get to see him in between hometime stretches at all. Nowadays, he passes thru on average once a week. Last week it was every day. Going one way or the other, LOL.

Yes I still work for them. I don't use their benefit plan, Im retired military so I/we use Tri-care. But I do use their vision plan, which seems to be top rate. All lightweights are two seaters unless you have the seat pulled. Last time I was at the maintence shop I spoke to the foreman about it as a trainee was asking. Was told they were not pulling the seats anymore. Now whether that is still the policy I could not say.
BTW they will not try to put you into a lease UNLESS you press the issue, and if anyone does just let the boss know and that will be that. -
I start with Prime soon, and have to run 20K combined with a trainer.
Seeing as how I may get assigned a lightweight, I'd like to hear what the lightweights are all about if anyone has a few moments to spare.
As I've been out of the saddle pretty much since 07, I'm not expecting a brand new ride, just curious about what may be.

I've heard good and bad about prime...but thats with just about every company.Then again,i know a mechanic that works there in Springfield,mo. he told me dont drive for this company.Oh well...back to looking again.LOL
