Its a fact that these co's are useing your per diem to pay you far less than what your worth.I had co's tell me they would start me at 35 cents or more. What they do is use the per diem pay and reduce the starting pay they told you.Dont give up YOUR PER DIEM!!!! You EARN it being away from home and out on the road.Any co that says they are paying per diem is screwing you big time!! Im sending letters to the IRS and some news channels to get this corrupt system looked into. The gov is loseing millions each year in taxes from this system. Its for you drivers to claim at the end of the year and get a big deduction. That figures out to be around 18,000 or more you can claim. You seriously wanna give that deduction up??? Fight for your per diem.10-4

some companies like mine have a per diem but its not that much so you are still able to write of at least 75% of your daily er diem, so dont lump everyone into that catagory. you are not a certified accountant so dont start talking about things you are not qualfied to.

I'm not privy on per diem for trucking. Only for for pipe welding.
How does this per diem work in the trucking industry?
I was under the impression that if the wheels weren't turning, there was no money being made by the driver.
Thanks. -

every company does it different ours is done by so much per mile of there pay is not taxed each week. some are so much per day is paid to them as perdiem pay, personally i dont like that style to complicated. and some do like us but dont tax a big portion of their per mile pay. its an advantage to the company there is no doubt to that otherwise why would a company do it, most changes are usually made to help the company but that way they stay in bussiness if not they will be left to go under like the other 1700 or so companies a year that clost their doors every year in this industry

I just read a previous thread by oldtimer123. It does seem as tho taking a per diem is not a good idea.
I'm not a paranoid kinda' guy normal. I dont want someone taking advantage of me and laughing all the way to the bank either. -

Per diem will really hurt you if you ever have to draw Workman's Comp or when you reach retirement age and try to draw Social Security that is when it is really going to affect you. Also, if you apply for a loan such as a mortgage, you will get hurt here also.

Every company does it different, if the amount is less than you can deduct on your taxes then of course you would be on the losing end, you also have to know if you can claim anything more on taxes which most of the time you can not.(SNI program as an example) Some companies offer you the same amount as you would be able to claim on your taxes, which is a plus having the money now over waiting to get your tax refund. The only downfall that you may have taking per diem is that if reduces your reported gross pay which may affect your SS benefits as well as when applying for a loan.
