melton requires it. I think its silly, but hey, if that coil breaks free, thats a little step that will slow it down a little.....lol

Or launch it so it hits you from above instead of behind.

Thats what I was thinkin. But no its cool whatever makes you feel comfortable. I just assume throw more chains instead of messin with them boards.
-
lol yeah that too! launch it up so it goes over the thing thats actually supposed to stop things (headache rack)......
-
unless your chains break or are not tightened down correctly, it should never go anywhere. Melton policy is also to overdo the securement. with 5/16 chains (5400lb rating), a 30k coil would be good with 5, maybe 6. Melton wants us to put 8 (using each chain at 4000 lbs)

30k coil hits the headache rack, it's just going to go along for the ride as it passes through you and out the front.

Come on now, we're gunna scare the new guy off! lol
Treefork Thanks this. -
I think every company does something of that sort. When I was in a company truck they rated everything half of what dot wants so ya was def a pain running 10 chains on heavy coil (usually only happened if I was going by the yard) now I just do what make me feel safe and legal.

Thats what I do. I definitely don't take shortcuts...but I'll usually use a 5000lb per chain.
