I was on the truck for a week. Now in for home time. I was just wondering if all mentors like to yell. I just don't respond well to someone yelling at me when I make a mistake I tend to screw up even more if he yells I tense up. Then if I still don't get it right he starts in the cussing. he is sitting right there in the passenger seat yelling at me. He may or may not know or think he is yelling I don't know but the tone and the way he does it isn't cool with me. I am a very soft spoken person I just don't respond to that type of teaching my truck driving teachers never did that. This guy has taught me somethings but, for everything he has taught me he has said something that made me feel stupid. He has belittled me. I did ask for a new mentor. I don't know if I am just being soft or what

Just wait until he asks you to join him and his wife in the hottub. Not just for a frew brews either. Call driver services. Which terminal are you out of?

Screaming, yelling and cursing are unacceptable practices by a trainer.

    Emphasize the cussing.
That alone will get you out of the truck as Swift does not tolerate it .

All mentors have their own personalities and do what they think is right, if you don't like his style then you should ask for a different one.

Fontana, CA They are going to give me another one. I had to do a statement in writing.

We were driving in LA I haven't driven a semi truck in LA before and he was telling me to go faster in traffic that people were slowing down in. He just seemed like the typical LA guy. He has only been driving for three years. We didn't have much weight on us but still I just didn't feel right driving fast I mean I didn't leave to much room but he thought it was to much. He is this GO GO GO GO GO type he doesn't like to wait for nothing and will let people know about if he is There is a time and place for that yeah I think once I get enough time doing it I could get that way myself and maybe if he was by himself he could do that but I am just learning #### it. It just made me tense up so much I think I was having cramps because of stress.

I had a whole response typed when CRST called and ruined my day by asking if I wanted to lease one of their trucks...uh, no way bro. Anyway, glad you're out of that guys truck. Whoever you get stuck with next, just go with it if you can. It's over pretty fast and then you're on your own. One named John in Columbus, OH is a great one. Does a lot of NJ to LA and back so maybe if you talked sweet to Jennifer W. in driver services there she could hook you two up. I know he's based across the country but like I said he'll be out your way anyway.

Different Mentors, different styles. I know that it sux and they need to remember that the person that they are training are very new to all of this. Many seem to forget how they where when they started. Myself, I am very soft spoken, and if I yell, he really means that I need your attention now, not later and I have already tried to talk to you calmly and the student was not listening. I also do not give many compliments since I feel that some might start to let it go to their head and they will start to lose focus. One thing that I will say, if the student is not willing to pay attention, he will be off the truck the first terminal that I find. They will get many chances to mess up, as long as it is just something stupid and it does not wreck my truck, and I see that they are really trying. Back in my old days of training, I have to say, the best to train, mostly female. They were more apt to really want to learn. IMO

I am trying to learn. I am trying to take in everything he says. I am a slower learner too. I may have upset him because of that. The problems I was having was down shifting. I just give it to much gas and sometimes I don't put it in the right gear and I tense up and can't find a gear. it hasn't happened too much though. I get spooked on hills. I don't know what it is but I was told always take off in fourth gear. Hills I can't do that. I always take off in third. The funny thing is I was putting it in third gear to start out on a hill and he asked me why I was doing that and I said thats how I do hills normally and stall it out if I don't and he said "No put it in fourth" so I do and I just can't do fourth taking off on a hill and stall it. Yes, we did have a load. he tells me to get up out of the seat, I do, Then HE stalls it. I had to hold back my laughing. I couldn't relax. He had no respect for me at all if he would have just calmed down it would have been fine. I didn't feel I could say something like that to him. I have heard stories of trainers just dumping people in the middle of no where even when students go inside for a bathroom break taking off with all their stuff. I have respect for trainers I know its hard for them but it was like that the whole time I was on his truck. From start to finish. it was like he was pissed and I couldn't do nothing right. Like I said maybe I am soft maybe I am not cut for this but I will keep trying I have to make this work. Everyone tells me getting through this part is the toughest of it so I am going to keep on keeping on. I am hoping this next trainer will be good.

It's hard honestly to go from a straight 10 in your CDL school to an 8 in a Swift truck. After driving a 13 for so long it took a while to get used to a 10 again. Then to jump into a Super 10 was confusing for a while. You just need to be patient. Listen to the engine. You will hear it once you get used to it.
