TN has been that way for years on some bridges.

OH does it right, they send out the State cops and the State DOT to escort super loads and shut down highways/control traffic.

Wow, just got my first IL "new" permit. They certainly did change it up didn't they?

From what it sounds like, the 35 mph restriction is a glitch in the system, but until it is fixed you can still be written a ticket for it. You're still allowed the agricultural exemption if you're legal height and less than 12' wide. The 35 mph gets put on the permit when you're over 12' wide and/or over height (I believe). Right now, there aren't tiers in place in the system to distinguish between loads of different heights. The system sees you as being legal or over height, it does not distinguish loads that are <13'6" versus loads 13'6" - 14' or loads >14' ECT.

The problem we're running into is that most of what we haul through IL is 10' wide and 13'11" tall. So it's the fact that we're permitted for 5" over height and anything over height is restricted to 35 mph or 5 mph above the posted minimum if applicable.

    SHC Thanks this.

Forgot to mention, now they're 2-3 pages long instead of 1. I'm sure the truck stops are happy about that when they get in excess of $2.50/page at some places. Commy SOBs.

I also have the "5mph over minimum speed, or 35 MPH" on mine too. It's for 10'6" wide, legal height, 75' long, 94,000lbs on 6 axles.
They also changed the weight too. Before it was a blanket deal, with no axle exceeding 23,000lbs IIRC. Now it lists axle weights individually! Looks like they give a 1,000lb allowance on a tandem, so long as it is within permitted gross weight. Looks like I will have to start scaling out for IL scales, where I never used to have to!
Glanced at it when I downloaded it, then had to do a double take. Now 2 pages too, where as the old permits were a single page.

I have them emailed to me and print them in the truck. Too much time is lost exiting and parking and faxing permits.

I do the same, but I also use Myfax service and I usually download them and get the fax # to where I'm picking up and use their ink ;)

A couple of our drivers said that they were forcing guys to split the axle weights on the spread and issuing tickets if a single axle was over 20K at the I-280 scales in the Quad Cities

All I saw was the part where you could be up to 1,000lbs over an axle, but not over gross for the axle group/tandem.
Word for word from my permit for my next load, which is 13'10" high, 75' long, 10' wide, 98,000lbs gross:
"Any single axle within a tandem may exceed the permitted single axle weight by 1000lbs, provided that the permitted tandem gross weight is not exceeded"
The axle weights are individually listed now, so if they are permitted for 20000/20000 on a tandem spread, and they are 21,000/19000, they are legal according to that.
The tandem groups are all also listed by weight too. My current permit says "1st tandem group: 38000 2nd tandem group:48000" And it also lists individual axle weights. Made it complicated for the driver, but easier for a ticket it sounds like to me.
