I am new to this site and am a student at Roadmaster Drivers School in Tulsa, OK. I am active duty Air Force and will be retiring effective 1 April 2012 after 20 years of faithful service. The first 12 years of my career in the AF was spent driving 6,000 gallon Oshkosh fuels trucks as well as C300/C301 1,00 gallon diesel trucks. This being said, I do not want to transport HAZMAT at all. I have a little experience driving tractors is Saudi Arabia while deployed there, but nothing major. I am looking at TMC and Maverick as my top 2 choices of who I would like to work for. TMC had some great points of interest to me and Maverick is in Little Rock, AR which is where I am retiring to as it is also where my wife has family (and I am a big Razorback football fan as well.) Any advice I could get from any of you would be greatly appreciated. I would really like to find a trucking company that I could work for, for many years. Hope to hear from you all soon.

    WOO PIG SOOIE!!!

First off thank you for your service.

Congratulations on your retirement and welcome to the site. I have recently done the same thing as you are planning on after 20 years it was time for a change. My advice is to take your time and look around at all companies hiring in your area of interest. Then decide after you have compared them to what your needs are for you and your family.

I will, I don't start Permissive TDY/Terminal Leave until February so I have some time to look. Thanks for the advice though.

Thank you for your service. I am Navy Veteran with 8 years of service. I had to get get out because of medical reasons, but I am glad you are going into the Honorable trucking industry. I have a class A license with all endorsements and would love to haul haz-mat, something like jet fuel. I have worked at many airports and they do need jet fuel as well as regular 98 octane. I live in the central California area, near Pismo Beach. Do you know or have you heard anything about hauling fuel?

Also a Navy vet here! Another place to haul fuel is to rail yards, fueling train engines. Not many think about this. Also, check A&R Transport, they average $62K - and some terminals much higher. I hauled hazmat with a tanker company; drybulk & liquid, mostly liquid acid. I did 48 states, because that's what I preferred.
