Is there a basic computer program, 'DOT legal' that I can use on my laptop to track daily activities...miles/fuel, monthly/weekly maintenance...?? TIA. Getting tired of papers...everywhere.

I use a bunch of spread sheets I created in Excel. I am slowly developing it into a package for a 1-3 truck O/O thing. Eventually, these will be connected back into Quicken Home & Business accounting software.

I have an access data base I am using to keep track of all my loads/shippers/consignee/brokers. These will also tie into the excel sheets eventually. It also lets you attach rate cons and BOL to the load, carrier packets to the brokers, etc. It's able to query the database so that I can get reports by broker, state, consignee, shipper etc. MUCH more powerful tool in that aspect than excel.

Yes, and it is worth every penny!!! You will have around Four to five hundred out pocket at first and $20 bucks a month but you will have a system like the big companies that will not just do your logging but navigation, comunications by email, and it monitors your rig performance mpg, braking etc. I love it, other than the sticker shock at first. You can use with one rig or small fleet does not matter. You got to check it out my only regret is not getting the more expensive one being I guess I can print and scan docs aswell which would be awsome for billing. http://www.randmcnally.com/products/fleet_management/index.jsp

I'm just a one man band, who stays in-state...no need for IFTA or any of that.

I've been using drivers daily log for years. Logs, maintenance reports, profit/loss, ifta. Can be as customisable as you like. Its around 100$ and no monthly costs.
