mamamullins, I ain't looked at these posts since I started out with WEL back in july. I liked it at first, but I've come to realize that I ain't making jack. I ain't worth being on the road for only 4 or 500 a week at best! And now they're telling me I HAVE to have a sleep study for 250 bucks, and a probable 2.5k if they tell me I have sleep apnea.. which I have no doubt they would. Who ever heard of a driver, ANY driver, take a sleep study and not have to buy a bs cpap machine. I ain't gona blow a freakin months pay for that crap, so I decided today that I have to start shopping again too.
jasper, you're description of a bad company needing recruiting dept and always a big turnover describes every company I've ever heard of. How'd you find a job with a small outfit ya like. I've been trying to find a home for 10 yrs, and I've come to realize that once you've driven for once company you've driven for em all.

    Hey apickupman,

I am sorry that things aren't going well with this company, but for us we knew that things weren't going to change. To answer your question about the small company that he went to, it is a l/p, o/o company. It was a rough start in the beginning when he changed companies because of their PPP program, but I can say that it is probably one of the better companies that he has worked for. They have no qualcomm, no e-logs, and it is all phone dispatch. There is no certain day to turn paperwork in to get paid, it is when you get into the terminal you get paid the same day. I just started looking on the internet for companies that fit my husbands criteria, and I just wanted to stay away from the bigger companies out there. I don't know what area you are from, but I do know of small companies that are not l/p or o/o companies. If you want more info on those companies, just pm me and I can give you their names.

All I have to ask which recruiter are you. Because only a WEL recruiter would post such drivel and B.S. stay away from these people. Tell them Mario told you they are full of it, and see their reaction. I got them by the balls.with DOT and the federal court. If any former drivers that has the misfortune of working here contact me directly

freightpusher - couldn't agree with you more......as earlier mentioned in this post I had high expectations for this company and it didn't take me long to realize they were a fraud. I wish you luck with the DOT as companies like WEL need to be shut down. They are just one of many trucking outfits whom treat drivers like they work in a sweat shop in China. The industry needs a complete overhaul (a message from captain obvious here) but until companies like WEL are exposed and drivers will stop working for minimal income and poor conditions for companies like WEL, I am afraid it will never change.

I roll my eyes at guys that can't make it at WEL. I have been driving with WEL for 3 years next month. In that time I have taken 3 weeks paid vacation and was in the hospital/home for 3 weeks. So in the last 152 driving weeks I have logged 360,128 miles. Do the math. Its around 2600 miles per week. Here's the kicker. 18 months ago I switched to regional, so I am home every Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. Sure, I've had crappy weeks. I'm not saying you won't ever see a 1200 mile week. Crap happens. But no one ever complains about the 3700-3900 mile weeks or being home every weekend do they?

If you cant budget your money for a crappy week or even two you aren't likely going to make it at WEL. Not because you get a lot of crappy miles, but because budgeting involves math and intelligence. If you can't budget, you probabally also don't know how to plan your trips efficiently. If want to make miles, you have to be smart with the miles they give you. WEL gives you your pickup and delivery appointments, and its up to you to decide when and where to drive. They don't hold your hand or breathe down your neck. Personally, that's the way I like it. If I wanted to be told how and when to take a #### I'd join the military.

As for equipment, WEL has a great maintenance staff. The older trucks are being leased or sold, and the rest at 2010, 2011, and a bunch of new 2013 KW just came in.

Beyond that, they just issued a 2 cent raise across the board. When was the last time you knew anyone doing anything that got a raise?

It's Apples and Oranges. I was OTR for Wel. They ran me like a regional driver without the extra regional pay or the benefit of being home Friday/ Saturday & Sunday.

They are nice people. Nice don't pay the bills.

There's a reason they have orientation every week.

I left on good terms, and they just called and left a message asking if I would be interested in returning. This company works for some , didn't work for me. To say it's just a matter of being able to budget for "slow" weeks is way off base.

Happy WEL worked for you but if it was as good as you perceived they would not need Orientation every week. It is a TRUCKING MILL, not a career. Career trucking companies do not need to recruit, you recruit them. I am with a company like that today and it is night and day from WEL Companies. I''m making 2.5 times more money, drive better equipment, not force dispatched, and home more often. You won't find "Need Drivers" on our equipment.

I will not call you a liar, it is possible that you are one of a very select few that get plenty of miles with WEL but I know you are exaggerating at least a bit. I worked with them for about 18 months otr, my average miles were right at 2000 a week. I had several friends running regional out of depere that considered themselves fortunate if they got 2000 miles a week. Nobody EVER got 3600 - 4000 a week except maybe teams now and then. A regional guy getting those kind of miles is impossible. 11 hours drive a day 5 days a week could get a max of 3250 a week. That's if he didn't have to stop to deliver or pick up. Of course mist guys that read here know the basic math.
I don't mind cheerleaders for companies, but they have to at least be honest about it. Let's face it, WEL runs orientation ever week and averages 15 new drivers each orientation. That 15 x 50 or 750 drivers a year give or take a few. WEL only has 500 trucks, probably fewer by now the way drivers were tearing them up while I was there. That's 150% turnover a year. Nobody churns that many of they are a decent company.
