I've been w/ 'em for 3.5yrs. The union is gone. The benefits are outrageous. Dispatch is forced. Wages end up nominal at best. Very good people to deal w/ and that is the only reason I have remained. Most of the runs end up w/in 350mi. then a long one at the end of the week, many of 'em are driver unload and multiple stops.

Again, looks like a nice place to work.Last edited by a moderator: Jun 30, 2012

I heard a lot about Nussbaum today going thru Iowa City in the construction zone. A number of people were squawking on the CB about a Nussbaum running thru the 55 zone at 65, dead on the rear end of a 4 wheeler. Didn't speak well of that driver. I have never met him, but there is a Nussbaum driver that lives in/near the same town I do.... Kellogg, IA. Maybe he will chime in here if he gets on this forum. I gave Nussbaum a call about.... 5 years ago and asked about opportunities there. I was told I was outside the loop where I lived. Now there is a driver for them in my town. Go figure.

Any new Info on this company?
How do they treat drivers? -
They treat drivers awesome. The only reason i would ever leave is if i bought my own truck, and even then i would probably o/o for them

My sig is out of date, but I've been with them for 2 months now, and while they aren't perfect, I really don't want to leave.
Pros:
Decent pay
Weekly Gross pay guarantee
Holidays off with pay
Detention
Greeted by name when I walk in the office(Better than my dispatcher at TransAm asking my truck number from right behind them....)
Nice equipment
Home every weekend
Cons:
Forced dispatch(while it is forced, they are very accommodating if you have a good reason other than "I don't wanna". Communication is key!)
Hard name to make an insulting acronym out of
Uniform policy(Torso must have Nussbaum logo while on duty. While I wasn't too thrilled about it at first, they have treated me well enough to where I'm proud to wear my coat even on weekends)
A few accounts require you to help unload, but you do get paid for it.
Emphasis on MPG(Better mileage will get you a bigger bonus, and there is no cap on the bonus, so it can be a pro if you play the game right)
Limited hiring area.
They are kinda picky about who they hire, so just hitting the minimum requirements might not get you in.
They do require a year of experience, a clean record, and a solid work history.(there is some room for play in this, but it's all based on your reasons)cbfriend Thanks this. -
You better update your pic!!! lol....

I see them all the time in St. Cloud. Drivers always talking to each other, seems like they all get along pretty decently.

All in all, they are a pretty good company. They make real strives to turn the ridiculousness of much of the work weeks there seem worth it for a greater purpose. They are not union, it was voted out in 09. After the union was gone, benefits doubled. Then they became proactive in employees lives, and doubled benefits again if you smoke and didn't have a doctors note saying you have quit for at least 3mons. The pay scale leaves much room for wanting as miles are like pulling teeth many times, (everything is contract/dedicated, but broker, and there is alot of broker), so the scale floats by what miles a load has. Usually from .37 to .41. The office personnel are genuinely friendly and only very far in between do you find sarcasm. I've been with 1 dispatcher for almost my entire career with them until recently. I try to reach my dispatcher now, but get anyone but most times, so I don't even bother calling anymore. The equipment is very good if you get a Freightliner, the Volvo's are frustrating. Everything is auto, and the Volvo's usually don't work. They've gone with all advancements on new equipment so that means OnGaurd. This thing beeps at you nonstop in traffic and will SLAM the brakes on rendering you with only control of the wheel till it gives if you are cut-off. It also rides cruise to whatever speed the vehicle in front of you is doing if your on cruise. This thing is *******!!!!!!! The super singles and dead axle will give you plenty of work time in two inch snow, but you will most likely be home for a day every week. It is what it is here, and there is no changing it, when they say driver focused, they mean Driver Focused(you), fuel, log, costumes, appt. Medium to low average miles, but plenty of running for those with multiple stops. It's a tough gig with little above Werner wages in the end.
cbfriend Thanks this.
