Wow! Sounds like a recruiter.
They are just an OK company with many company issues that preclude them from being a reasonable location to work as an OO. Bad communication, especially the safety dept.
greatwide ripoff!

Holy Moley dude Did you not talk to anybody before you ran face first in there?I bet if you did somehow they gravitated to you before you ever reached the front door,Funny how that works,Anyone interrupts my experience thats a red flag just like at shopping if I need help I can ask for it dont crowd me or hover over me,Nowadays especially there is just way too many ways to arm yourself with needed information from people you see going down the road,If they have a radio and speak english that is but that and in truckstops and in forums,Never forget information is power and with that many strikes against them you would think that just about any driver you caught and talked to would enlighten you to some of those things because even jobs that are OK a driver will tell you hey man just look out for this or that None of em let you get away unscathed! But no sense getting beat plum up!A certain amount of due dilligence is your responsibiity,Sort of like buyer beware,It's sad but true!

Greatwide, Greatwide ATF, Cheetah Transport, Dallas Mavis and some other names it appears. They are a lousy company. At flatbed we did most of the looking for loads as OOps,you call on loads that are mostly gone and nobody removed from the load board, try doing that ten times a load and many times the rate isn't posted so it's a big surprise when you find one that is available but you are disappointed when you learn what it pays. They are also intent on letting you know that you aren't an employee, that you actually don't work for the company, that is when you do get someone on the phone that matters. Trust me after you get voice mail better than 75% of the time, and no return call back, except from their oversize division, you really try to do as much as possible on your own. I would not go there as a flatbedder, I did it for a year and did very poorly.
The safety department called me to let me know that I needed my physical done and the next time I got home to call and they would get me scheduled. I did as requested and called for two solid business days and only got voice mail, I tried other depts but was told they were the only ones who could set that up. Todd, Denise and I think the other was Sherry in the safety dept do a poor job of communication at best, but that seems to be the general attitude at Greatwide. -
The reason for most of the loads on GW boards being gone when you call on them, is that its not their freight. Their agents are also agents for other companies, most for at least 3 or 4 other companies. Their freight is mostly brokered, alot from Landstar, who has already taken a big chunk of the money off of the top. The agents who do have any of their own freight also have their own trucks, and thats the trucks who's going to haul it.

Any info on the Terrell, TX location? They do Wal Mart dedicated account. I drive a Dr. pepper truck to grocery stores and am always running in to greatwide drivers at wal marts.. Most of them are real nice and do seem happy with their jobs and have given me lots of info on them. Yeah most of them drive older trucks simply because they're paid for and reliable..and they're home everyday so it's not like the truck is out over the road taking all kinds of abuse and tons of miles. They're able to keep them rolling for not much cost. One guy who had an old freightliner FLD Classic told me he was taking home anywhere from 1500-1800$ a week after fuel and expenses. they all say they make real good money and they also say it's much better to have a truck that is paid for than to do the lease purchase with them. But over all they are great guys and from an outsider looking in, just from talking to them and gathering info it seems like a good job. yeah there will be BS anywhere to deal with but from what I can see it seems like a good deal. I am thinking about buying a used truck and getting on with them so any more info or opinions on this would be helpful!! I want to buy a cabover
