I did a very comprehensive and ACCURATE breakdown in another thread that you may find useful. In fact; it was only done to prove that jllk doesn't know what he is talking about. He is just a very good company driver who failed as an owner operator and now(for some unknown reason) trolls threads similar to this one where people ask for general numbers and posts numbers that are innacurate at best. I will see if I can find that thread and link it here because I don't have the time or energy to re-type it all.

Hey bigray, yep first post just found this site actually. Yes thats profit to myself. I still drive my truck. Actually you may have even seen my truck on CMT Trick My Truck ?? I own LOCKDOWN , the mobile jailhouse. Anyways Im6under , Yes I save for repairs. You never know when it may be a rainy day,but I've allready rebuilt my engine, trany, rear ends, front and rear suspension before the Chrome Shop Mafia took it for a little while . So my truck runs really well.I take care of it,you have too to make money as an o/o. There still money to be made on the road, not lots of money but a prety good living. Thanbks for the info eskimo6804. Being an o/o isnt easy but worth it I think.Like I said I take way too much time off to be a co driver LMAO.I think they would fire me after my first 2 months... c-ya all !!

As others have posted there are many different degrees of being an o/o. I attempted to list the potential pitfalls of being an o/o in regards to a lease purchase.
Some of these lease deals have hidden charges written into the lease contract (in legalese) you will have to sign before becoming a lease operator. Here are a few examples; Charging the lease operator a drop fee or preload fee for dropping a load at a terminal or picking up a preloaded trailer at a terminal. Charging for pallet exchanges. Charging trailer rental fees. Charges for qualcomm installation and usage. Trip pak fees. Management fees in regards to filing fuel taxes, road use taxes etc. There are many other fees some companies will deduct from a settlement.
As an inexperienced wannabe o/o, chances are you will not have the business acumen to realize what is a proper deduction and what isnt. Many of the companies that offer lease deals will not even allow the driver to take the "contract" away from the companies property to have it reviewed by an attorney of your choosing. When a company will not let the contract out of their sight until you sign it you should be very wary.
The truth is most who attempt to make the transition to o/o status do fail. If it were so easy to be an o/o everyone would do it AND succeed.
I have always advocated taking a business class at the very least BEFORE attempting to become an o/o.
As for averages on truck payments, fuel mpg's and cost, benefits costs, insurance costs, etc all will vary based upon what you choose to purchase, how you choose to operate your business, and what the leasing company agrees to pay.
Best of luck to you Crunch in whatever you decide to do.

Just out of curiosity how is it Deputy881 is such a roaring success at being an o/o he would "qualify" for trick my truck?
I mean everytime I have watched that show they have always chosen a down on his luck trucker that cannot afford to repair his own truck and keep it maintained and pay his bills at home.
The whole human interest story based upon the saddest story they received.
I must have missed his episode. Maybe someone can let me know the plot of his trucks makeover and why the chrome shop mafia crew would donate all that time and money to a self proclaimed successful o/o.
As Oprah says; "things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmm."

Just to give you a very brief idea. roughly my operating costs, including my wage, runs in the nieghbor hood of .85 to 1.05 pm, based on 100K per year and at the nat'l avg fuel costs. So, with my annual avg of $2.15 pm for ALL MILES traveled, that leaves MY company, for MY TRUCK making $1.25 per mile PROFIT!!!( this operating figure does include tractor, trailer, insurance , fuel, workers comp, state taxes, federal taxes, plates, state LLC filing fees, what little bit I pay for property use as a terminal, and accounting fees.)
I guess I can make it on these low rates?!?!?!?!:biggrin_2554:

Very impressive! Nice to see some fellas actually can make a go of this as an o/o. I suspect getting those rates you have your own operating authority and have negotiated with shippers for that 2.00 plus per mile.
I for 1 have never heard of ANY lease purchase offering anything close to those rates. All my posts have used published data from trucking magazines as to what they offer in compensation and what is included in that.
This post is an excellent illustration of the wide gap between the different o/o positions.

HAHA Well jlkklj777 if you actually believe everything you see on the television you are a ------ then I originally thought. ;-( The trucks and their drivers that were selectred for Trick My Truck are selected out of random. No sob stories, just tv stories !! Ever notice Dot numbers on the truck, truck numbers, trucking co names,ICC numbers, license plates ?You really think a truck can go down the road with duct tape holding a light on the truck? HAHA now my truck was aired on Feb 16, 2007. They changed the appearence to my truck some to make it look better for a TV SHOW ??? How boring would it be too pick a truck and trick it with no story behind it. Yes the show is based on facts with some exagerated stretched facts. If you challenge what I make and how I run my truck I challenge you to a bet? You monthly paycheck to my monthly paycheck?? Money goes to a charity? I am not getting rich but as I stated I do ok for my needs. I do not run the whole month and I still clear $4800 a month. I do not believe in living to work, but i do believe in working to live . Now if you know a co that charges you to drop a trailer please name them here on this forum?
It seems you did not make it as a 0/0 so you making it sound like noone can ?? lmao.Truth is lots of people make it.I have a friend at WSE that does very well leasing a truck thru them! It is a fair and honest lease program. There are co's out there that rip you off like Prime,Artic Express and Landstar. All you need to make it COMMON SENSE!! But you do believe what you see on tv is REAL,so I now know why you are still a co driver. Being a 0/0 is hard work.need to save money ,need to maintain your equipment, need to buy equipment you know you can work successfully and not get into too much debt.Need to know how many miles you need to run to make profit. Some 0/0 with there own authority do very well,I for one know plenty who are doing just a little better per mile then I am.It depends on who you know. SIMPLE COMMON SENSE STUFF.

Caolina beaver teaser is doing well, glad to hear it.I didnt have the right contacts with my own trailer.Making just enough money too pay the bills, who wants too live like that ?? So I leased to a co,has its benefits as well as downfalls. I do have lots of less bills though.so jlkklj777 no what you talking about ( Trick My Truck ) before you pop off and look like a ----
