I'm surprised it wouldn't tune. An analyzer would be very helpful if you can find somebody with one close to you. I keep threatening to buy one (an analyzer) but never have. You are right about being heavy! Heavy duty mounting hardware is a must if you want it to last.

Are u using factory coax? Also I run the predator 10k, had to trim bout 6" for it to tune true bout 1.1to1 swr. But when u do cut do it in 1/2" intervals and run the whip all the way down till it won't go in any further. These big antennas catch a lot of wind so might beef up yer mount as well. And another trick is Vaseline. If ya goin thru snow n stuff put a little on a rag and wipe the whole thing down with a thin coat. Keeps ice from forming on it as bad. Hope this helps

    EZ,

I also run a Wilson and have had good luck with it. I almost bought a 10K after reading the reviews. Everyone has their favorite tho.

    Thanks guys,

I am running brand new made in the USA 98% braid coax, new mounting bracket,SS heavy duty stud and everything ground strapped.
I have 2 different wilsons that both tune great. Also a fiberglass Francis that has way better SWR reading than the MM...
Just confused at this point as to why i can't get SWR under 2.

I'm going to carry the Monkey made with me and find a shop to analyze the antenna system.
I hate to pay to have this done but something is going on.
My 5000 trucker is blowing smoke right now so i may just stay with it.

Agree with topcat1974, if your 5k Wilson is blowing smoke leave it alone. Those are great antennas, you won't notice much difference is any with all the other antennas out there on a big truck.

Sometime when your are sitting over a weekend try them both and see if you notice a difference, I really doubt you will even with the Monkey at 2. If you want a good coil antenna for the big truck try the Predator 10k they are light and people have great luck with them as well. The Wilson 5k are hard to beat for a all around good antenna for the big truck.

Keep us posted on how you make out as I am curious myself if you get the Monkey tuned down enough to see how well it works or if you notice a difference...

EZ Money and Voltrucker Thank this.

Remember that with an open coil antenna, you may be crawling up to clean the ice and snow out of that coil before your CB will work again...

    EZ Money Thanks this.

    I hear ya guys,
The Wilson 5k is a good antenna.

The MM i put back on today with a different SS new stud and it tuned right in 1.3 to 1.4.....strange!
The Wilson will stay in the truck but i will test this out a couple weeks. The receive is a bit stronger with the MM so i figured it was worth testing a few runs.

Probably go back to the Wilson anyway....it just looks better to me...lol!
