I'm looking at the TND720 also, is that one?

 

The TND720 is a Ran McNally.

It's kinda like Chevy vs Ford
Coke vs. Pepsi. lol.

I'm looking at getting the 720 soon myself.

 

I run an older version. The TND510. Ive been extremely happy with mine. The key to any gps is to not let the machine outweigh your common sense.

 

Do a search in YouTube. There are several reviews over there.

 

I have used the 700, then the 710 and the 520 over the last 3 years. It works well, has been dependable and probably has the best technical backup in the industry. There is a thread here on TR that addresses all your questions and is monitored by the lead RMN tester.
Their industry beta testing program is second to none in my opinion, so the fixes needed in ANY software based machine are constant and current.
No...I do not work for or compensated by RMN. Just my experience and opinion.

I have been using the 510, I did a lot of research before buying it. Works well the only issue I have had is with the power connection but Rand (and Mark) have taken care of it. Check out the thread on the RM GPS's it is a good place to see what everyone else is saying plus you will learn a lot about the products. I did talk to Mark (lead tester at Rand) and he said that the 720 power system has been improved, I would have upgraded but I'm on a dedicated run so only use the gps now to watch my eta and speed....

 

I don't think, I'll be getting RM ever again. I bought a TND700 less than 3 yrs ago for approx $450 w/ tax.

The unit went down not that long after I got it and their tech support wanted me to send the unit back to them (w/ no replacement program even w/ the offer of my CC# until they had my unit on hand) but I contacted Mark here on TTR and they winded up sending me a SD card that re-flashes the unit to the original state. Had to re-use that SD card probably no less than 3 times since I got it.

Speed limits are wrong, even with updates. Don't find half of the truck stops or tells you to go to the next exit and come back from the other direction. Got me traveling on some field / water when I'm still on the main highway. Doesn't find Wal-mart Super Center in southern California cities. Going through PA - routes you on 10 ton restricted routes, 15 ton restricted bridges, etc... Louisville, KY - restricted truck route (going into Mercer's yard on a truck route). MS on US 98 - "no authorized truck route found" - basically can't get there from here. It's very slow in re-calculating routes, freezes, no battery life what so ever once unplugged, etc...too many to list. Except for some road construction updates from time to time, they don't have any other updates even though it's still problematic. I guess they want to sell newer units and stopped providing supports. I've sent them routing errors but no fixes to date.

I know no GPS are perfect but you figured a map maker would know the roads their maps prints. Old out dated Pc Miler software gives you better routing. It may be (and that;s a big may be) better than nothing but definitely not worth what their prices are.

 

Just bought the TND720 and have been using it about 2 weeks. Re-calcs pretty quick for me. I've just noticed the most common "error" seems to be inaccurate speed limits. Keep your eyes peeled.
