Cub, before I figured out that the health care field was not for me, I completed a million (okay not really that many) class hours about infectious diseases and microbiology. The bottom line is, other than actual cases of food poisioning, most flu-like symptoms are caused by people who don't wash their hands before eating, or, rub their eyes with hands. Your best friend is a box of sanitizing wipe thingys, if there is no hot water and soap nearby. Think of all the germs on money, door handles, etc. Most people don't give it a second thought, but I am one step from being a Howard Hughes. Kidding, but still nasty, if you think about it.

On another note, a funny story: I live near a town called Greenfield also. It happens to be in Massachusetts. A few months ago, a friend's neighbor was working at the local welcome center off of 1-91. A truck driver came in to ask directions to a business he had a delivery for. The lady, a nice older gal, didn't recognize the name of business, so she asked him if she could see the paperwork. Yep, you guessed it, Greenfield, Indiana. Poor guy. The best she could do was tell him where the nearest truck stop was. How he managed that is beyond me.

okay saphire, answer me this. did i read correctly somewhere that using hot water with NO soap is 90-something % as effective as using soap and hot water? i am a firm believer that anti-bacterial soaps and such dont "excercise" your immune system.

Nope, has to be soap and water. The anti-bacterial soaps are nice, but a bottle of plain old dish liquid or something like that works just as well. Bar soaps in a dish are not a good thing. Ick.

Anti-bac soaps are not responsible for the outbreaks in 'superbugs'.

    Merry Christmas!

the worst food poisoning i ever got was when i was in 8th grade (cafateria food at school) and it knocked me flat on my arse for about 4 days, couldnt eat anything, couldnt drink anythink, just stayed at home, laid in bed and kept a rubbermaid trash can by the bed.

Back when my dad was a teenager he was driving for local guy who had A few trucks and whent to work one day and got realy sick with apendasitise(i don't know how to spell it). well any ways he maned it out all day and made it back to yard. About 25 mins after he got there somebody asked why is'ent lee coming in. Well they went out to see what was wrong and when they opened the door he fell right out of the truck onto the ground, they loaded him into somebodys car and rushed him to the hospital. He had it removed and was back at work the next day.
God people were tough back then, I mean can you imagine driving a day after surgeory in a truck with no air ride on roads that were loosley qualified to be called roads? Man if that hapened to me i would have been screaming for my mommy!
