i just want to see the opinions of those in the trucking world about this subject. it seems it should be possible since youu can still work some even when on disability. also can they say a certain type of work doesnt count? i dont think that would be fair but doesnt mean they cant do it. so i figure hey lets just ask and see since it seems they are so picky about work history.

it will all depend on the disability
which you will have to reveal
as you need a 3 year work or non work history as a new driver

I found one article that says it is against the law to discriminate against a disabled person. So wouldn't that apply to all companies?

OK but as long as you maintain certain hour limits and earning requirements you are still aloud to work in order to try and prepare yourself to return to work when you are able.

There is a limitation put on that standard. You have to be adjudicated against to be found under mental disease or defect. So if you haven't been found unfit or insane or a danger to yourself or others in a court it would seem that would be circumstantial.

They do want 10 yrs of work history unless you are an experienced driver who has 3 current years of driving I think. There is a long application to fill out once a person gets to orientation, on it it will have 10yrs needed.

Certain medications that are used for depression, bi-polar, schizoprenia, may not be allowed, this is because of the carriers' insurance insurers requirements. But this would need to be discussed with your dr., some meds if they sign off on it maybe allowed, not sure which ones though.

Work hours may entail driving 11 hrs, sitting and waiting at shippers and receivers, 10 hrs in sleeper and it starts all over again according to load needs. The week will usually will be up to 7 days on then 34 hrs off. No guarantee as to running a certain time frame either.

OK I get that. But there are no meds in play. It was a circumstantial situation that made life really hard and took time to move past. But now is completely under control. So how is it fair to say that person can't drive because of a past issue.
