You need to talk with a recruiter, they should be able to steer you the right way. But because of being on disablilty you most likely will have to have a drs release. I'm not sure what else that will entail.

I have. And they told me to go get my dot physical and go to training and go to work. I'm just skeptical of recruiters because they will promise a lot and you get very little. I will be a new driver but I have a pretty good assessment of how it works

I think the bottom line is that you were on disability......for whatever the reason, and this is most likely going to come out in a background check by either you telling them, or them finding out on their own. Either way you will have to do some explaining. Attempting to go on the offensive with a possible employer and tell them what you think the law is in regards to your particular situation is most likely going to be a mistake on your part. Remember, when it comes to hiring, they hold most of the cards. Times are tough and there a people with perfect backgrounds going for the same job as you.
Heck, just cold call several companies and ask them their policies. If they demand you give a name or other information about yourself first, move on to the next company. Right now you are asking a bunch of truckers some pretty technical questions in the area of hiring pratices on medical issues. They are giving you their best shot, but experts we are not.

OK I will call around and ask. But as far as anything showing up on a back ground check it won't. I know this because I have had back ground checks done. and hippa ada and Jan stop them from going very far into much of what I'm talking about. I just don't want to be discriminated against because I was fully honest and gave 100% effort just to be told sorry your not good enough because you have a past. I am also in the process of finding out what is exactly on my medical reports so I know what issues are to be addressed. But I will not give up on this. This has been a dream of mine for many years. Its not all about big money or the perfect life. Its just something I have a passion to do.

Recruiters try to screen is basically what they do, they are not the final word on hiring or not hiring, they can only I guess guide you if they know where you are coming from; the real questions and tests come at the orientation process. I know one guy in my husbands' class had to get more paperwork from the VA that he did not bring with him where he had been treated for a problem in the past.

You can take a DoT physical at your drs and have a long form filled out by them, if the company wants to call him to verify the info they will. And in that process you will need any release forms from the dr giving you permission to work. You still have to do the physical at the company though, and each company have somewhat the same tests or some maybe more involved.

I have no doubts that I can pass the physical tests as well as perform as well as any student learning to drive. Every job I have had required odd hours and having to adjust to given situations. I have had to travel long distances to work for weeks at a time away from home. I have never had any driving offences or restrictions or tickets of any kind. All I can say is I am going to see exactly what may slow me down and what it will take to get passed it. I'm used to having to work hard to get what I want and this will prolly be no different but I will find a way to succeed.

You might need to find out what the disability dept would report also about why you have disability. Perhaps HIPPA laws cover this also.

I plan to find out even though hippa does cover it. I want to know exactly what is on the reports if for nothing more than personal knowledge.
