Btw... if you look back in the first few pages of this thread you will find my posts when I just started 3 years ago. I didn't have all good to say, but I acted like an adult and worked it out. You can look at the testimonial of someone that gave it 3 months, or someone 3 years. You decide.

I am anther one that just left due to lack of miles/ pay when i started 7 months ago it started out ok but they lost alot of freight from one of the big accounts then it just went down hill from there. plus i jst got my last pay check and not happy they charged me $700 for truck recovery because i left the truck at the same terminal i picked it up at and they told me it was only a $200 fee.

I too, am a former WEL driver. Started 11-1-10. Last Nov. I went home for my 2 wk. paid vacation. At the end of the month I had a minor surgery (hernia) & went on to "family medical leave". It's supposed to be OK up to 12 wks. I sent payment for Dec. insurance (no paycheck to deduct from). When I sent payment for Jan. my check was returned and I've received notice from the ins. carrier I can sign up for COBRA. That's a non employee policy w/ no group rate. The only other contact WEL has made; a phone call from a recruiter to ask if I had received my Christmas gift. I've been applying to companies close to home (Idaho) and am hopeful I won't have to try returning to WEL. I was cautiously optimistic that after 2 yrs. the job would become what it ought to be. An OTR should avg. 550-600 miles/day, but mine was 350-390. That combined with a customer base that holds us hostage at the dock on both ends, and appointment scheduling that gives us 5 days for a 3 day trip, or an LTL that puts us behind schedule for the entire day beginning with the 1st or 2nd stop. I doubt WEL can ever reduce their driver turn-over as they seem completely unwilling to address these issues much less solve these problems. As long as the focus is on the safety dept. expanding the "watch dog" programs, the drivers that want to work, driving long & legal, will continue to walk away. Anyone reading this with plans to hire on at WEL, go right ahead. Learn through your own experience if it's a job you want to keep.

It's like any other truck company's lease program. If you understand business, you have as good a chance at success as anyone else. The company has undergone some management and other structural changes, so perhaps leasing is better, too.
