Greetings Fellow Drivers,
I am returning to the open road after 6 years of local straight truck driving. After losing my job a week before Christmas, and trying to play the "games" that you have to play to try and get your unemployment benefits. I have decided to return to the open road. Will be having to go through school again which on one hand sucks, but on the other is good because of all the changes that have happened in the last six years. I hope to just find a good job with a good company that will treat me with respect, and pay me decently. I have a four year old little girl who means the world to me and I need to get off my butt and get back to work.
Hope everyone has a good day. Be safe out there.
Returning to the open road

Welcome Ghost_Rider220!
Are you going through your state's employment office for CDL school or private? I've read (here) that many reputable CDL schools have good relationships with many carrier companies and they may be able to guide you to a good company. Also, check out the reviews of many companies listed on this forum to help you decide which company would be a good fit for you and your needs.
Good luck! -
Thanks much for the info. Am trying to go to TDI in Oxford, AL, was planning to start next week, but may have to wait till next month.Chinatown Thanks this.

Since you already have 6 yrs. exp. even with straight trucks, many good high quality companies will hire you after TDI. Don't hold back on the applications, put in as many as you want.
A&R Transport has a terminal in Decatur with avg pay of $62K per year. My ex-neighbor made $72K per year there.
Melton Truck Lines has a terminal in Birmingham, one of the best flatbed outfits around. They have a rider program & APU's.Last edited: Feb 6, 2013
