I'm currently a company reefer driver for Prime and want to transfer over to tanker. I have some questions if someone here could answer them.

    - Has anyone here changed to a different division?
    - How do you move to another department, do you just tell your fleet manager you would like to move or is there someone else you should talk to?
    - Will I need to turn in my current truck during the training process?
    - Any tanker drivers here? What are the miles like? Any pros/cons to share?

Any other info is appreciated. I'm planning on switching to tanker next month.

    Thanks.

Talk to your dispatcher and the head of tanker.

I'd do it the other way around... talk to the tanker guy, and then let your FM know it's a done deal.

You should talk to Brett VonWiller (bVonwiller@primeinc.com) :)

    Little update.

I talked with my fleet manager and the head of tanker, went to tanker training, leased a new truck and I'm now in the tanker division. :biggrin_255:

The first place I picked up from had more security/safety requirements than any place I ever went pulling reefer. I had to have:

    • Twic card
    • Hard hat
    • Safety glasses
    • Steel toed boots
    • Gloves
    • Flame resistant suit

I don't think most places have so many requirements, that place was a port that had a lot more than food grade stuff that Prime hauls.
