Short cut said: ↑Oh, and just so you four know. I'm on home time on a Friday night and thought I would review my own company and what people are saying. Two of you have respectable years experience. You other two need to get more experience with the left door closed and get off your computer. Obviously some of us are drivers and some are bloggers. Quit worrying about what others are saying on a computer and learn how to bump a dock with your doors already open or without tearing one off. If you even know how to back up your Prius! LMBO! No time for computers in my cab. Nothing but road time, eat time, family phone time, shower time, bed time, back to home time, pay day time, and family time. I mean who has 2 years of truck driving experience but has time to post 1655 or 6109 times on this site???? Obviously not a REAL TRUCK DRIVER! I can spot a blogger when I see one. Yes I have been a member for a while, with very few posts because I have a stick and wheel in my hand! Not a computer! I use this site to educate myself, not to blog. Get a real driving job blogger. Do you blog or spend time bumping docks. Your comments are laughable!!Click to expand...
everyone is different and most of the newbie wannabes just trying to gain understanding
thou some of them fustrate me too -
anyone on this post that works foe Sharkey know how many miles you can get running regional van? I run hard and will use all my hours in my logbook if they give them to me?
mje Thanks this. -
Short cut said: ↑I am a driver for Sharkey and I stumbled on this post so I thought I would throw in my two cents. I've noticed that, out of the 600 drivers that work here, no one has posted anything. Must be because we are too busy working, spending time with our families, and spending all the money were making. LOL I've worked for Sharkey Transportation Inc for over 12 years. Most of the drivers around here have also worked here for just as long. The best way to hear about any job is to talk to the drivers that still currently work here. Not the guys who are negative nancys because they got fired for something or the guys who quit and Sharkey wont take them back. LOL Yea right, you should listen to those guys because they've got it all figured out! LMBO!!
Look here are the facts:
1. Insurance is Free for me and my whole family. I can't tell you how much money that saves me. Especially with 6 kids.
2. I get to run how I want. I'm currently running Dedicated GM. (General Mills) I get home about twice during the week and off weekends. My miles are the same every week 2862. I can set my pay check to that. My gross is 1058.94 every week. Except for the winter, I don't hit my fuel bonus then. Then it drops down to 1001.70.
3. There is NO BULL ####! I come to work, do my job, and go home. I don't need my dispatcher to hold my hand or be my friend.
4. I really love my Compliance Bonus. As long as I don't get any log book violations, I get a $800 bonus every three months. I always hit that bonus to total $3400 for the year.
Those are the facts and I really don't give a #### about what any of you people say on here. Don't come to work here, I don't care!! Just more miles for me and my family.Click to expand... -
ozzzzzzzzy said:I live in Springfield, IL and I was just wondering how you like working for Sharkey. I've been driving since 1996 and I'm looking for a company that pays well and lets you drive. I saw a post that you put on here about Sharkey and you spoke well of them. Any info you could give me would be much appreciated. Thanks and stay safe out there.Click to expand...
I'm going to retire here. This is the best company I have ever worked for. It's truly an open door policy here. The last day of orientation the President Jack Sharkey came out of his fancy office and shook my hand, welcomed me aboard, even gave me his cell phone number. I think a lot of that man. What president of a trucking company would take the time to not just meet you as a new hire but also give you his personal number if you have any issues that you don't agree with. Obviously its not to abuse that right. But yes, the most personal working experience I have ever had, even outside of the trucking business.
He's not just a numbers cruncher type president either. He started this company from the seat. Our program is designed by our driver committee. Thats what stands out to me. They actually listen to us here. I'm on a dedicated run right now. I get home every night and off on the weekends. I gross around $1100 a week right now. I took a different pay type. I'm driving on percentage because I'm able to make more this way. But you get to choose your schedule, lanes, mileage or percentage pay, I really couldn't ask for more. Plus I have 5 boys and the company pays for not only my benefits but my entire family. This saves me a ton of money.
I think their is local lanes in springfield, IL right now too. Just call the recruiters and they will fill you in on everything. No shadyness here. They even put everything in writing for you. It's not a perfect company, but what else could a driver really ask for?
There's tons of info out there. Not just this forum and the couple of haters that obvously got canned or something. Get out there and check out other forums and websites. Thanks for the private message and if you don't mind I am going to post it in the forum also. It could benefit others who read this forum too. I just got tired of answering the one guy who just keeps posting in this forum. It was dead for almost 5 years.
Check out Brenda's stuff on You Tube. She has several videos that she has done. She even had a film crew ride with her about the life as a lady trucker here.
Hope this helps Driver! Be safe out there!

She's got a bunch of videos on this link. Talks about the TV show that they are doing on her too.

This is addressed to "Short cut" - I have said more than once " Sharkey may be a good company for some , but not for all " . I am tired of drivers like you , who think they know it all . First Jack never came to an Orientation or does he shake the new drivers hands ! Second , the Insurance is free , but like the saying says "you only get what you pay for " , we used the "free insurance" on the road for my wife & when we got home we discovered they only paid about 15% of the bill .
I am not as you say a "negative nancy" but I am a realist & only tell what has happened to me while I was there ! True when I left they did pay all that I had coming . I have also NEVER tried to get rehired , so your comment about that is also untrue ! Nor did I get fired , I quit of my own accord ! Before you attack someones statements on here or anywhere , maybe you should think before engaging your keyboard !! I did meet a few drivers that were happy there , but most were either misfits or way over-weight , the kind that most companies would not hire ! And most that I talked to did not enjoy everything about Sharkey , but stayed because they hate the hastle of looking for a new job ! If you had takin' the time to read my posts you would have seen the nightmares they put me thru . First I do not like sitting 8+ hours because someone with more time in got my load that I was told had cancelled & I had to wait for another that they said was a "HOT" load , but was not even scheduled to be loaded for over 6 hours ! I know because I watched another truck come in & take out the original load I was to get ! I also did not like sitting 3 days south of Detroit because of the idiot dispatcher that would not listen to me , when I told him more than 3 times I could NOT make his delivery time . Or when they give you 4 loads on the computer , not counting the one I was hooked to & then asked me what was my ETA for delivery on that 4th load !! So maybe you are a "Super-trucker" or maybe you are one of the "dispatchers favorites" (brown-noser) I am not sure , all I write here is exactly what happened to me . Yes , I am abit upset , because it is drivers like you that sugar-coat things to get other drivers to hire so you can get the bonus ! Oh , by the way you need a refresher coarse in math :
(4. I really love my Compliance Bonus. As long as I don't get any log book violations, I get a $800 bonus every three months. I always hit that bonus to total $3400 for the year.)
Last time I multiplied 4 x 800 = $3200 ! But , what the heck , whos complaining over a measly $200 when you are making SO MUCH MONEY !! LOL , this is my hopefully last statement on this post , take it however , I just don't care !! Only reason I posted this one is because of things you said in yours ! I also have been driving for right at 30 years & most places I worked were for around 6 years & would have been longer if they did not go out-of-business !!
I probably have seen you around the shop in Quincy , but can not tell by that tiny photo on your entries ! Maybe you should imform these people who you are sugar-coating about repair time or service time in Quincy !! There is another joke !!
How about the benefits : Sharkey nothing - Sisbro & Core , paid vacations & holidays !! Yeap , they are truely a good company !Last edited: Mar 26, 2013

No one attack your statement recently OUTLAW13. You are complaining about things all truck driving companies do. It's part of the job. You are saying the insurance sucks? 80/20 Only once in my life have I ever had better! A good friend of mine works at a large hospital, and she only gets 80/20, and she has to pay for it! Sharkey is a great company, sorry you are so nasty about it. But get a life! Every trucker has been crapped on in all companies. If you had a problem with your dispatcher, you should have changed! You have that right! And just one more. My husband also met Jack during his orientation. So that is not bull.
