    hmmmmm

ok, you are unique, so maybe you need a unique approach. hate to say it, but there are some dinosaurs out there, so you r life will be interesting. if you have a 44" chest, perhaps stepping out of the truck to pee standing up will be a bad idea. might not be a politically correct statement, but it's reality.

schools are not the only place to get trained and experienced. and, the big fleets train, because they don't have time to take you out in the lot to see if you can drive.

maybe you can find an O/O that would train, then hire you to drive his/her older truck while they got a newer one? if you can get a foot in, you can learn and decide. have you tried local, dump truck, lumber co, equipment rental and so on? why limit yourself to OTR? anyone can hold a steering wheel. what you need as well is to be able to get thru/around town, find delivery addresses, load, unload, deal with traffic. what good is a driver that can get 3000 miles coast to coast, but can't get the 5 miles from the interstate to the dock?

you are going to have a slightly tougher life on the road, but on the other hand, you've already faced more adversity than most, so i'd think you've got it 75% licked already. don't give up, and if the first try don't work, try a different approach.

Honestly, I'm really surprised. I expected alot of bad comments, but all have been supportive!

I've chosen to ignore the negative, and focus on the positive road ahead of me. I've failed my first two CDL training tests, but alot of the questions are not in the manual, and I learn as I take them.

    There are three parts:
General Knowledge: Failed first time, passed second
    Air Brakes: Failed first time
    Combination: Failed first time

I'm gonna get it though! School starts Monday, I'm very excited. If transgender people can get a job, I know I can! :biggrin_2559: I'm going to try staying local if I can, but my school instructor says for me to take OTR for one year, then go for local. He says that most people want experienced for local.

Happy New Year everyone, and stay blessed! I'll keep everyone informed as to how each day's classes went. I didnt see any threads about daily school life, so I think it will be interesting.

I LOVE delivery driving, so truck driving sounds just as fun. Just me, the open road, and generally friendly drivers.

Some people's calling is medicine, some is fast food. Mine is driving. You are truly blessed if you can do what you love!:biggrin_25514:

fyrstar, don't feel bad about failing those tests, I failed the general knowlege, air brakes and combination vehicles at least 20r 3 times, reading about all the mechanical parts out of that book just did not make sense to me til I got to school (rodtc) roehl was great for me to learn but in the end miles just did not work out:biggrin_2552:.
As for your other situation, you sound like u got it together, be confident and strong and u will fall into something that works for u:biggrin_25525:. God bless
