few thoughts I have on this, if they claim it's against company policy, you should be demanding to see in writing where it says that. If they cannot provide you with such, I would be talking to your states unemployment office as well as filing as claim against DAC for Slander of Credit (I know it's not credit, but that is what it falls under) and make PAM prove to DAC that they have a company policy agains this. Personally, I would have made them call the cops to have me removed from the property for firing me under those circumstances.
Also, I do not believe they can withhold your certificate of completion unless you signed a repayment plan, if that's the case then possibly they can, but even that would be hard to stand the test in court.
As others have said, I would look at smaller companies, check craigslist, etc.

Wow...PAM is not on my list...but thanks you added another question to ask recruiters.
From what I have read...you can add an explination...Dac falls under same rules and regulations as the Fair Credit reporting Act -
Them canned Qualcomm directions aren't always accurate. If you had a goofy fuel manager like my last one he was always trying to tweak the routing until the point he had the whole system messed up. He finally reset the thing and left it alone, lol. I don't care who the company it is, I don't always trust that routing. I've even seen the local routing altered by incorrect driver input to their dispatcher.
The next employer will know you graduated a school by your employment record. They might send you back out with a trainer.
I would try disputing the DAC. The worst that can happen is it stays on there. Most mega carriers keep employee files on a computer. Was the picture scanned to your file? Is your face in the picture? I would just flat out deny using it in the dispute if all it does is show an arm and GPS. That can be anyone's arm.

It's amazing someone would go to the length of making you lose your job over that. I guess they thought kissing would get them somewhere. Maybe karma will get them?
I could see another company overlooking that ridiculous rule and firing. Nine times out of ten the GPS will match their routing. It's not like you drove out of route.
If it stays on the DAC just be honest and up front. Explain like you done that you were just trying to find a truck stop. Drivers get hired everyday with marks on their DAC. It's not like you abandoned a truck or wrecked it.Lhallowell Thanks this. -
Something dosen't sit right with me. A simple photo of you touching the GPS and you were fired? I feel like there is something missing here. Like perhaps you have a history of going out of route? Or did you get a ticket off route? Or have an incident? These are some of the reasons these companies will frown on the GPS but this is the first time I ever heard of somebody actually getting fired for having a GPS in the truck. And what exactly did you do to PO your codriver that badly anyway?
I guess I am just hoping there is a part of the story you left out, because otherwise you got a really raw deal here and that's a tough one to accept -
FatDaddy Thanks this.

My company relies on me having and using my gps..I go to some off the wall places and they like to send maps but it isnt always feasible for me to get them... a lot of what I do is on the fly. Hell, my dispatch sends me addreses and contact info via text half the time. (I am sitting still when doing the text thing though)

Just remember, you have a right to anything in your Personnel file. So if that picture is in there, they have to provide it. And I'd get legal advice or call the state labor board about this. Because they may be able to assist you.

Yeah, this is terrible, companies are taking things way to far, I'm one that usually cross references routes with all tools I have in possession. I get to see the miles they don't include, (that time I may not get paid for) and hopefully come up with that route that fits the pay or point it out. after awhile those routes are known with out to much if any cross reference. There are those routes the gps comes up with the said company has used before yet send you another direction. go figure.
I'm not employed by pam
